    Breaking on BBC.

Chelsea will never progress with this continuous policy of not giving mangers time.

    Roberto de matteo takes over.

He basically said "sack me" and now Chelsea are stuck (again). Player power rules a declining kingdom

Happy for him, better off away from that sinking ship. Hope he returns to Porto (or to a club and players that will back his footballing philosophy's) where he should have stayed for another couple of seasons at least.

If they keep going with two managers a season, eventually one will succeed. Right?

It's the infinite number of monkeys theory.

Di Matteo in charge till season end

He should never have been hired, he simply didn't have enough years managing in the top flight. Moreover, Ancelotti should never have been sacked if this was the level of replacement available.

Chelsea need to hire someone and stick with them while they undergo a fundamental overhaul of the playing staff. Anything else will amount to a half measure.

Hire Benitez, give him money, give him time and they will be back fighting for Champions Leagues / Leagues within a couple of years.

Circus club. Nice litter earner for Villa Boas these past few months.

Stupid decision, he needed time. Look at Jose at Madrid. He signed Kaka, Ronaldo etc. in one Summer and didn't win the league. He was given time and look where they are now. About to win their first La Liga title in 4 years.

    Agree 100%.

The team is in decline and someone needs to be given the time to reshape the club. Unfortunately, it's not happening.

We should have never let Ancelotti go in the first place.

Be interesting to see how Robbie does. I initially would have liked him to have gotten the job before AVB came in, be good to see and old boy do well with them.

The next manager will be unsuccessful too unless he gets rid of the bulk of the squad

Who's next? Will Mourinho come back? I'd love to see him back in PL.

Unfortunately the results and performances of the team have not been good enough and were showing no signs of improving at a key time in the season.
The club is still competing in the latter stages of the Uefa Champions League and the FA Cup, as well as challenging for a top-four spot in the Premier League, and we aim to remain as competitive as possible on all fronts.
With that in mind we felt our only option was to make a change at this time.
With immediate effect Roberto Di Matteo has been appointed first team coach on an interim basis until the end of the season.

Lose Ancelotti, lose AVB, gain... Di Matteo... :pac:

Hope their season crashes and burns now. Disgraceful carry on, what respectable manager will even look at them now?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,432 ✭✭✭willmunny1990

It was always going to happen IMO. It was just a matter of when.

I reckon a yes man like Zola or even Di Matteoo should be left in charge for the moment.

Who will his long term replacement be?

I honestly don't see any realistic contender at the moment.

What a woeful bit of business bringing in this novice was by Roman, sacking a man like Carlo for this nobody was mind boggling. Now we are back to square one again. I was never in favor of his signing.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,832 ✭✭✭✭Blatter

That's what happens when you hire a manager younger than some players that have traditionally had huge influence in the Chelsea dressing room. It was always a huge risk.

Mourinho back in the Summer wouldn't surprise me. Don't see Benitez, they wouldn't have announced Di Matteo as manager until the end of the season if they had Rafa in mind.

That's the problem with billionaire owners - they raise the club up at a huge cost financially, but also at the costs of the personnel and the fans. Double-edged sword

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,325 ✭✭✭✭Dozen Wicked Words

The old, under performing players, have seen off AVB. Abramovich thinks he's in charge, in fact its all the old faces in the dressing room. In same way they got Scolari sacked and Grant sacked. The same bunch who had a poor end of last season to get Ancelloti the boot.

If Abramovich really wants change, get rid of Lampard, Terry, Drogba, Mikel, Kalou, Cole, Malouda.

Why not appoint Terry & Lampard as Manager and Assistant Manager as they seem to be calling all the shots.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 568 ✭✭✭irish_man

Feeling sorry for AVB. Chelsea have an awful lot of dead wood in their team and I never thought a 4-3-3 formation suited the old guard of lampard and drogba. Really a bit re-shuffle is needed at Chelsea. JT isn't half as good as he was. They don't have a right back. Torres is abysmal. Heard a stat that he scored more goals for Liverpool last year than Chelsea. What a joke. Really sad for AVB. Thought he and Chelsea could go on to great things. Oh well!

Hardly unexpected, worst record of any Chelsea manager in some time!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,832 ✭✭✭✭Blatter

People can say that the decision was a joke all they want, but it just wasn't working. The team didn't show any signs of progression or any signs of going in the right direction over the last umber of months and Villas Boas had quite obviously lost the dressing room.

He had to go imo, it was a risk that just didn't pay off. I bet Chelsea will start playing again now.

He'll be the next Inter manager. He almOst signed last summer. He'll be signed this summer (or sooner) to replace claudio
