The BLEOP noise when it highlights something on the company hierarchy is annoyingly similar to my phone's low battery noise. :pac:

If you've Sky HD you'll get the F1 channel at no extra cost.

If you're subscribed to Sport OR HD then you get it free.

Ive got sky hd as of yesterday. I tooled up at the end of last season to pick up rtl etc to get F1 free but I couldnt resist the sky once a full sports pack wasnt needed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 228 ✭✭Panda Moanium

So if you haven't got Sky HD, do you have to subscribe to the full Sports package to get the F1, or can you buy the F1 channel as a stand-alone?

You must have Sky Sports or the HD package. It is not available as a standalone channel.

Just been flicking through the Sky planner and there's a few items of interest coming up on the new channel.

    Saturday @ 12.00,season review 1988

    Saturday @ 16.00,season review 1989

    Sunday @ 12.00,season review 1990

    Sunday @ 16.00,season review 1991

Nice one, glad they're filling the weekend with stuff like that. I'm not really looking forward to the first show tomorrow night, it'll give a "feel" for the coverage and I'm not overly optimistic.

Are they one or two hour reviews do you know Lucan? If its two hours they'd be the official FOM reviews which were always well worth a look

They're an hour and 15 minutes long according to the planner.

I dont particularily like the guy presenting the studio bits this evening. Glad of the familiar heads though. Not looking so bad and they said they are going to have a whole load of options on the red button for the races - multiple cameras from incar to Pit view and live timing. Should be interesting. Im sure the breaks either side of the race will get rather annoying though.

I didnt see the show who was presenting it? By the sound of things the red button should be very good! A bit like the "Digital F1" coverage but its worth noting BBC will have the onboard coverage on the red button again this year

In fairness we put up with breaks when we are watching pre and post game for football, rugby and GAA matches. We put up with ad breaks when we watched a tennis match or a golf tournament...As long as the race is uninterupted the ads arent going to bother me

Simon Lazenby is the presenter. He's a bit interrupt-y but I imagine part of that is because he's used to presenting the rugby where there's more need for it. :pac:

As for ads, I don't care. I imagine they'll be necessary during the European leg. With GP2 and GP3 both being shown as well I'll appreciate the chance to get a break and have a smoke or whatever :pac:

Lazenby, I forgot that he got the job. Ive never been a fan of his rugby but ill wait til i see him doing the F1 before writing him off! Still its gonna be hard for him to match what Jake does for the Beeb. I know he's not everyone's cup of tea but he loves the sport and does a good job promoting it

It's going to be hard for anyone to match Jake.

Simon Lazenby's good, very good. As someone says he tends to cut in a bit but a lot of that is down to the fact that he has to deal with tools like Will Greenwood when presenting rugby.

I'd be very interested in the last one. ;)

I'm considering signing up to Sky Go just for the sake of their F1 coverage.

Have Setanta on UPC, was looking at the listings for the race next weekend, looks like there will be no race build up and that's one thing I always look forward to.

Just get HD for 15 a month and you'll get it I think. Check on it but I think that's the case, would be the cheapest way to go about it.

You'll need a hd tv, and a hd box first though!

They constantly have offers on the boxes and ya don't need a HD telly I don't think, it'd be the only HD thing not compatible with SD tellies I'd come across.

I'm looking at all options. If I was going to go down the Sky Go route, I would have to subscribe to Sky Sports, so I think it would cost me around €55 a month that way. There is no long term contract that way so if I wasn't happy with F1 on Sky, I could cancel.

Some blueray players are without coax connection...;)

I'll check the back of hd box tomorrow when I get home to see if it has a coax..think it has though..

Don't need a HD TV and the standard Sky+ box is HD compatible.

There is a well publicised deal on at the moment re free box and free standard install, 2 options if you want SkyF1 - 1) HD package - €15pm on top of the base €25 package or 2) a Sky Sports subscription €34pm plus the €25 base package.

Unfortunately I can't see SkyF1 being on UPC anytime soon and Setanta's offering will be inferior albeit included in the basic UPC package.

I am sure there are a lot of older sky+ non hd boxes still out there..my mother included..

To get the benefit of getting the cheaper hd package you will need a hd tv to get the benefit of the full hd package.

Are you sure just the HD subscription with no other channels doesn't give you the F1?

    Sony's new players....

Hdmi.... plus a composite Video output but this doesn't give you the best picture !!

Was the F1 channel on preview / freeview for the weekend??

Was channel flicking over the weekend and came across it, was delighted!

But we don't subcribe to Sky Sports, nor do we have any HD packages. We do have a HD compatible/ ready/ whatever TV & sky box.

Haven't had a chance to switch on tv this morn to see if we still have it.

To get F1 with Sky, these are the options I have:

If I subscribe to Sky HD, it will cost a minimum of €40 per month with the Sky Entertainment pack.

If I subscribe to Sky for the non HD package, I will need to subscribe to Sky Sports 1 & 2 in adddition to the Sky Entertainment pack which will cost €59 per month.

If I choose the Sky Go (watch it on my laptop or through my XBOX) option, it will cost €50 per month (€55 with Sky Sports & Sky Movies).

Irish viewers who don't have Sky have the chance to watch all the races live on Setanta Sports with the BBC commentary, as the channel have confirmed (albeit with no build-up). But only ten of these races are actually being broadcast live in the UK, with the rest being shown as highlights programmes later in the day.

So are we effectively getting the BBC commentary exclusively live in this country, while everyone else in the UK has to wait until later in the day??? Or are they carrying the races live on the red button and the website?
