This is the new event in the Race Series. There will be three athletic clubs in Fingal ( Clonliffe Harriers, Fingallians and Metro St Brigids ) who will assist in organising it and they will receive the financial benefits. The 10K will get every support needed from Fingal County Council, who are delighted with this venture.
The course hasn't been fully finalised yet but it will finish in Main Street.

What main Street, Swords? Any rough idea of a date yet.

This series leads up the the DCM and I always think there's too much of a leap from 13.1miles to 26.2. Something in between would be good. 20 is probably too much for training, maybe 15, 16 or 18 miles or 30K or some such. Just a thought. The 3/4 marathon in Athlone fills this gap now of course.

I think you've answered your own question as the athlone race is perfect for Dublin.

The problem I had with the athlone race is that its too undulating. I mean if you were to try and run it at marathon pace, to get an idea of how you'd go in DCM, I think you'd be non the wiser afterwards, the undulations were just too dramatic. That was my experience anyway. I think a 20miler with consistant terrain would be a very useful race to have on the calender.

I see the map is up for this now, not a bad little course, its a run i do alot. Nice little hill from 6.5km - 8 km, not too steep but a hill all the same. Rest is very flat.

Just noticed it as well. That hill could be testing if there's a wind blowing at all, but the last 2km will be fast. It'll be interesting to see how the road closures go down with the inhabitants - though at 10am on Sunday, might not be too bad.

It would be a good time to bring back gthe clonliff 20m that used to be on years ago. :).

Last day to register for this. I missed the 5 mile yesterday because of work but should be able to do this. Doesn't seem to have as much interest as the rest of the series.

Got my number today - really looking forward to this now and hoping for a PB - I presume that congestion won't be an issue on this route.

I read somewhere about being able to park at the Pavilions SC, but you'll have to pay

The first 2 hours in the pavillions are free but its only €1 per hour for the third hour so wont break the bank. Very little free parking in Swords and especially with the race.

Had a look at the route but not sure of the direction of the run. MY 91 year old dad wants to support and his gate is on the route. So , is the end of the run down North St or is this the start?
I havent got my number yet. Should I be worried?

A lot of the numbers will be sent out between now and mid of next week so there will be no need to panic. If it doesnt arrive there is usually a pickup area at the race.

North street is about 3 k in so that should make it easier to know what time you'll be passing by.

Thanks for the tip on the 3rd hour price, I was debating heading over as I'd be aiming to run it in an hour, so a half hour either side of start / finish times would have been cutting it closer than comfortable.

Now I'm happy out to arrive early and leave at my leisure!

Anyone know if race number swaps are allowed this week or if there is any way to enter? Interest seems way less than PP races - will it re-open?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,704 ✭✭✭✭RayCun

Number swaps never allowed in the race series

Just with the parking situation. I see that the pavillions isn't open until 10. Will the carpark be open earlier??

Pavilion car park will be open earlier to facilitate race parking.
There will be two wave starts on the Main Street.
Arrive on time as the chip mats at the start will be taken up ASAP as the race will come back in to the finish at the end of Main Street, outside the Council offices.

any ideas on the wave times?

Of course we will have the idiots who don't follow instructions about waves and start on the start line cause they don't want to lose down on their 2 hour target

    I'm a Swords head.

Its pretty much flat or downhill for the first 5 k. Mostly downhill with the bypass. From 5k to 8 k is uphill. Nothing steep but a long drag.
8 k - 10 k is downhill aside from one short sharp hill just before the finish.

    Sounds good.

It'll be a nice change from the Phoenix Pk hills in G.I.R and I.R. 5-miler.

It seems relatively flat with the worst uphill section between kms 6-8 with a 35m rise in in the 2 kms, which is about a 1.75% rise which I would consider a gentle enough climb that would not be unusual when running on roads.

The course doesn't go into Applewood Village.
When you reach the Pinnock Hill roundabout after about 800 metres, you continue straight up the hill and do a U turn after about 200 metres ( close to 1K mark ) and back down onto the by-pass.
When you turn left after Balheary Park ( old Motorola site ) you continue straight through the Glen Ellan roundabout and turn left at the next one.

Thanks Hard Worker. I took the route from the PDF on the Dublin Marathon Website. Although the mapping is not as details, the PDF seems to show the route going through Applewood Village, or am I missreading it? The route I have put in appears to be the same as the route on the DM website, although some of the road names on the side of the DM map dont match with the ones on the map (eg Thornleigh road is shown on the map but google maps shows that road as being part of Applewood Mainstreet with Thornleigh Road being further north). Not that this really matters too much, come sunday i'll just be following everyone else round the course.

It goes as I described above. It was originally due to go through Applewood but amended to allow for a traffic plan.

Are these narrow roads? I'm wondering as I think the turnout could be quiet high...

Seatown road at around 3 or 4 k is narrow enough but it should be spread out enough by then.

    Two questions...

    1) Coming from town. Is it best to get the 41/41c to Swords village.

    2) Will a bag to keep tracksuit etc. be safe to leave somewhere?

This is my first ever event but I think the sticker you got is a tag for your bag. You must be able to leave it somewhere and they only give out the bag to the person wearing the matching number.

33/41/41C all from Abbey Street (Irish Life Building) or Swords Express from Eden Quay (Laughter Lounge) all get to Main Street, Swords. Paper sticker goes on bag, bag goes in corresponding gazebo tent near the Start/Finish (probably on Chapel Lane).

A nice down-hill after the 8km mark might lead to a pile-up outside Old Schoolhouse when that short steep climb up onto Dublin Road hits.

Would 60min cut-off between the waves split the runners 50/50? I'm new to this stuff myself and wouldn't be fast, but I would have thought that most who have taken up running would be able to get 10km under 60mins on a race-day. I know I got 5mins off my usual 5mile when I ran my first race last month in the Park.
