Well people said I was a clown for refusing to pay the household charge.

Who said that? Was it a fellow boardsie? I thought it was pretty mutually felt, anyone who would pay was the clown in this case.

The politicians in the Irish Republic don't seem to know how to run a country. It is just constant scandal and incompetence every day.

First we had the disgraceful Sinn Fein ink scandal and now this.

Clowns indeed. A local LABOUR councillor was calling to homes in Waterford during the week trying to get people to sign up for the household charge. FFS - LABOUR!

I'm sure the civil servants responsible for selecting them and awarding them the contract can prove they paid a private consultant to make the difficult choice and are as such without fault.

Are you talking about Westminster or Stormont? Stormont is progressing, still a long way to go. But every day on here there is scandal and incompetence from politicians elected in the Republic. There seems to be a deep rooted problem at play here.

To be honest I really do agree with you, Irish politicians do get away with a lot of incompetence, we as a nation really do put up with poor standards with our politicians.

Yep. He asked the lady of the house to sign up. She asked why. Well, he said, you'll never have to pay it as you're in an unfinished estate. The obvious reply came: if I never have to pay it why do you want me to sign up for it. He left. Idiot.

Don't go there. After the expense scandals in the UK in the past four years our mob are only trotting behind.

Yeah. The more I think of it the funnier it gets. Surely they should be sued under the Trades Descriptions Act or something for impersonating left-wing socialists.:D

I am Irish and I have to disagree with you there. The UK expense account was petty cash compared to our crowd. Also British politicians do go to jail, Lawlor got a 5 days in the Joy which is about the only time in our history an Irish politician went to jail.

British politics to their credit is remarkably clean, I would venture to say the cleanest in the western world.

People in unfinished estates are entitled to a waiver, but if they try to sell their home they need to supply the waiver. I guess they can apply for one later, but it might delay a sale.

I suppose it makes sense to get the waiver sorted out early.

Keith is right. Politicians in this country are a disgrace. The same applies to a lot of countries but I haven't got a say in those countries, nor should I. Bottom line is he's bang on the money and I don't see any good alternatives heaving themselves over the horizon.

Try telling that to young couples in Negative Equity. And then a so-called 'socialist' politician asking them to sign up for an austerity measure. FFS!:D
