Mild Laxative Recommendation?

    Hey all.

Apologies if this is the wrong forum.

I'll be competing on Saturday in amateur MMA, and for making sure I'm in the correct weight class, I want to make sure my bowels are clear of any waste, as it tends to make a difference.

Could someone please recommend a mild, natural laxative that I can maybe take the night before, which will work either during the night or when I wake up?

As it stands, it can be a few hours after I wake up that the old digestive system kicks in, which isn't ideal. I do take psyllium husks daily, but they don't make things progress any quicker.

    Thanks!

yesterday,@ 4pm I took 2 dulcolax tabs. At 11 pm I got a cramp..went to jax and an avalanche of crap ensued ..Felt so much better. I would recommend them.

They say on the instruction to take before you go to sleep and you should be ready to go when you wake up. Hope that helps.

How much weight are you over?

It's probably something you should talk to your coach about as I'm sure he'd have exp in the area.

Only about 1kg off as of today. Should be competing in the 85kg catagory, though the limit is 85.4kg. I was 86.4kg today upon waking. Once I hit the bathroom in a bit, I could well be around the 85.9 mark.

I'll ask my coach tomorrow night, but this isn't really the usual 'driven' weight-cutting procedure, it's just a little something extra to help. I've gradually dropped about 3kg over the last two weeks or so, it's just this final bit to go :)

Thanks for that, sounds like a good recommendation.

Prune juice, cucumbers and coffee are the most natural I can think of.

Something as simple as skipping your last meal the night before could get you there like. Or just eat low residue foods between now and then and get a natural laxitive effect.

That is stick to things that are disgested quickly light meat, veg and "simple" carb sources. Things like beef, fats etc can take a bit longer to digest and clear your system.

You certainly don't want to do anytihng remotely radical if you don't have 24+ hours to rehydrate tho. And tbh with that little to lose, you don't need to.

Awesome. Cheers for that. I'll check out what sort of foods would be good / bad now.

If you've been dieting for a while too just increasing kcals for a couple of days could be enough to flush any retained water as a result of reduced kcals.

Basically there's about 4 or 5 simple answer to your problem that don't involved putting the toilet into therapy! :D

With increasing calorie count though, I'd be very concerned about putting back on some weight... ~85kg is definitely below my usual weight, and it feels like my body is itching to put some weight back on again.

Well... I never said all solutions were appropriate :p

I know it's counter intuative, but increasing kcals back to maintenance or even above for a few days can stimulate a drop in weight (water weight tho), there's also some talk about gene expression and how there's a time delay between the fat burning being "turned off" and kcals coming back up, but it's not something I'm fully au fait with.

Basically - do the easiest, lowest stress method of getting ya to weight. And the one that won't impact your performance.

....oh and good luck and all that! :D

Does this mean I'm not a consultant to an MMA fighter?

Aloe Vera Colax, health food shops have it, pink and white box with a picture of an aloe Vera stem on it, does the job!

Heh, cheers... but I'm expecting to spend more time with my legs in the air than a lass on Leeson Street on Saturday!

It's the MMA League (http://www.mmaleague.com/), so it's just the amateur version. Are you still training in BJJ / MMA?

Liquid Paraffin ftw. My best kept secret... well not anymore. Cheap, cheerful and no... em explosive effects.

Two capfuls of milk of magnesia, its gentle. Dulcolax is more explosive!!

I wouldn't be looking at laxatives for 500g or so. Go the easier route.
How long do you have between weigh-in and fight. I have 1kg swings all the time, if you monitor your weigh and food intake in the lead up you should be able to control it a bit better.

Thanks guys. I've been keeping track of my weight for the last two weeks, was delighted this morning to see 85.1kg on the scales. Won't need a laxative if this keeps on track :)

On the other hand, I'm committing carbicide on Saturday night after the event, so might need a laxative then :D

    Cheers!

Double espresso few puffs on a cigar best to have an empty cubicle on hand though :D:D

    linseed.
pour it into whatever you ar eating. you need to take a good dose - not the 2/3 spoons the bag will recommend - a good pour and 20 mins later you will be liberated.

Weighed in at 84.1kg on the day, made the weight easily enough in the end :)

One draw, one loss. Not too shabby for just three months training and no prior experience :)

As a side note, the league is really enjoyable, if anyone was interested in competing in MMA it's about the best first step to take.
