Glee star Max Adler and Homeland's Omid Abtahi are among the latest actors to join ABC pilot Last Resort.
The drama - from The Shield creator Shawn Ryan - follows the crew of a nuclear submarine who become fugitives after refusing to fire their missiles.
Taking refuge on a small island, the crew establish themselves as the world's smallest nuclear nation.
Ryan confirmed the latest castings on Twitter, writing: "Max Adler of recent Glee fame has also been added to the Last Resort cast."
He later added: "Homeland's Omid Abtahi the latest to join Last Resort cast. Thrilled to have him."
Ryan later announced that both X-Men star Bruce Davison and Avatar actor Matt Gerald will appear in the Last Resort pilot.
Filming on Last Resort begins tomorrow (February 30) in Hawaii. Scott Speedman, Robert Patrick, Dichen Lachman, Andre Braugher and Autumn Reeser will also star.

I know way too early as it only pilot stage yet but I have high hopes for a series pick up given the creator, storyline and cast involved

Sounds like a good premise. Hope it's executed with the same rawness as the shield.

500 feet beneath the ocean's surface, the U.S. ballistic missile submarine Colorado receive their orders. Over a radio channel, designed only to be used if their homeland has been wiped out, they're told to fire nuclear weapons at Pakistan.
Captain Marcus Chaplin (Andre Braugher) demands confirmation of the orders only to be unceremoniously relieved of duty by the White House. XO Sam Kendal (Scott Speedman) finds himself suddenly in charge of the submarine and facing the same difficult decision. When he also refuses to fire without confirmation of the orders, the Colorado is targeted, fired upon, and hit. The submarine and its crew find themselves crippled on the ocean floor, declared rogue enemies of their own country. Now, with nowhere left to turn, Chaplin and Kendal take the sub on the run and bring the men and women of the Colorado to an exotic island. Here they will find refuge, romance and a chance at a new life, even as they try to clear their names and get home.

Well CBS are already trying to kill it. Last Resort will be airing against a Two & a half men/The Big Bang Theory tag team.

Looks so good that it'll probably be cancelled after 1 season. Happy to see Andre Braugher is something again after 'Men of a Certain Age'.

Kyle Killen had this to say: ” I would say this season’s canary in the coal mine is going to be the “Last Resort” show on ABC. That was one where if you told me it was going to be on FX, and after the second episode, FX told me there would be a second season? I’m in; I’ll follow it wherever it goes with those auspices and Andre Braugher. I will be really curious to see if they can pull that off on network. It’s another test of where drama is at, with it being as successful as it is on cable, and the return of comedy on network, what is network drama, at the moment, a super-open question.”

Yea just after starting to watch it and noticed that. I'll put up with it but it is very annoying!

Still thanks for link though. Better than nothing!

anyway watchable enough, still pretty cool, when ya got past the start, not really convincing on the
    nuking of pakistan
, and then the general dad,
all he did was look sad and go to his office, you he'd be a bit more proactive
    .

Just finished there. Must say I enjoyed it, will definitely being tuning in for more.

Just watched the first episode myself.
    Like and enjoyed it.
Will be interesting to see where it goes
and how the seals screwed up and started the whole mess!

It look's like the pilot was originally a two-parter because it seems so rushed. Here's to hopeing the creators get some big money and breathing space for the rest.

seems like an interesting show, i dunno how they could make this a multi season show though, this show could be finished in 20 minutes if the president just rang up the captain, how could a sub be attacked by its own people without the presidents order, especially if its carrying 18 nukes,

ill keep watching for a few episodes to see what its like, but i dont think it will hold my interest TBH.

I expect that a mini faction looking to start a war for their own reasons (profit? Halliburton hinting at!) caused what happened to do so.
I expect a rush to cover-up secrets and bumping off of characters back home to silence leaks meanwhile the crime based natives on the island in trying to be rid of their new visitors, eventually side with the bad boys/girls back in America, to see each get their own individual objectives/ends met.

Wow....that was pretty out there plot wise. Will give it a go and watch them as they become available but can't see it lasting more than a season. Can't see where it could possibly go to be honest. Buy then again who knows....they whole thing is so unreal, they could do anything they want.

i'm hoping at least one polar bear will show up on the island

if not, i can't see this getting beyond one season

It was a completely out-there concept, but a lot more realistic than some other shows that are also coming out (I'm looking at you, Revolution).

There is a certain amount of plausibility about it.

I thought it was awesome!...nuts, like lunatic plot/premise but really gripping all the same!, my only concern is how do you stretch this plot past one season...let alone multiple if it gets renewed

There are alot of plot strings and i suspect we'll see alot of flashbacks as well to further the plot. It *seems* like there is a coup going on within the US government....or at least it's millitary.

Why attack Pakistan and how those Seals fecked up etc?....for future eps.
Love the cast, not a weak link here...the acting ain't Emmy but more then passable, high end production values.

It remimnded me of Red October or some decent tv movie....the premise lends itself more to a movie then tv show. Jumping sharks, plotholes....if you dig you'll find tons but on face value twas just like a popcorn movie/action flick.....switch off the brain and go with it! :D

    Loved it!...i'm all in :)

It does seem like it'll be hard to stretch to full season. I've a feeling they'll be stuck on the island for most of it and it'll fall into a formulaic dilemma-of-the-week show (one episode about getting food/supplies, another where a soldier/sailor breaks some law and has to go on trial, some medical emergency, an approaching storm, a few coups by that guy who says it's his island).

    Good fun so far though.

Watch the first 15 mins of eppy 2....not bad, pretty fast paced. Love triangle with Peterson and the French chick and Scott Speedman?.....i know he's married but there has to be some hookups on the show.

I've been on hols but caught the first episode of this last night. In truth, I was looking forward to this one. I had high hopes. My hopes haven't been dashed so far. It's a bit mad really. I'm wondering myself how they're going to even get half a season out of this. I'm hoping it's not another Lost i.e. great premise and excellent pilot only to fall into 'make it up as we go along' pretty quickly.

I hope there's some significance to the private company's gear on the sub that makes it undetectable. Right now they've put their position out there for all to see but hopefully they might go back to sea the odd episode to 'do things'.

It does look like a coup is going on within the government and it'll be interesting to see how that plays out over time. I have to hand it to the writers, it's one of the maddest premises I've seen in a long time and if they can pull this off effectively I'll take my hat off to them!

Great first episode. Sadly not many people watched from what I read.

If this gets cancelled, Shawn Ryan will have to get together with Joss Whedon to discuss what to do after Fox cancels all your shows.

Good pilot alright.. though not sure on it's longevity without it resolving to hideous on-island romances etc.

Will have to see how Mockingbrd Lane does, but yeah, I think he'll be safe enough going ahead and buying the donuts.

Maybe Joss can put in a good word with Marvel and have Shawn Ryan do the next Punisher movie and Bryan Fuller do the Runaways, or for something more quirky, Deadpool or Howard the Duck. :)

Quite possible that Captain is going to go crazy at some point.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 21,634 ✭✭✭✭Richard Dower

Eppy2...fast paced, too fast imo....felt very choppy and bite sized. My BIG issue is NO ONE is asking the big questions??????

The US government told the public that Pakistan had fired on it's nuclear sub...in retalition the US fire two nuclear missiles at them!, later the public find out the sub is ok.......so????

How are they spinning this?....what aren't the public asking WHY they fired on Pakistan and why the sub was not sunk?
The show is avoiding the most basic questions one would expect....that being said it's still good stuff.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 21,634 ✭✭✭✭Richard Dower

    Hyzepher wrote: »

They certainly hinted in the first two eps. he might have his own agenda, or a god like complex...tryna set up a new utopia on the island etc.
Or revenge for his sons death....Daisy Betts is hot! :)

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 21,634 ✭✭✭✭Richard Dower

I thought, eppy.....oh, sorry....episode 3 was pretty good and tense in parts. Especially the sub being hunted. That warlord guy is pretty hardcore and rather interesting to watch!, and he'll shag female sailors in exchsnge for their lives....then proceed to kill one of them anywys....awesome!

One thing i see happening + hate....the romances have started. Speedman and that French wan already doing a flirty dance. The Seal team 6 dude and utterly WASTED on this show Aussie Dichen Lachman.....what an utter waste of a good actress! :-(

Twas good we got off the island but i STILL can't see how they can stretch this story out past 13 episodes let alone 22?. The story changed again last night...Pakistan had nuclear suitcase bombs and gave them to terrorists....so they nuke Pakistan...??????

WTF?????....you can see they can't or won't touch the basic questions the viewers or the public on the actual show would be asking. They are tryna avoid those questions and it does seem they are making it up as they go along.

I now quote ratings, because ratings matter....and lasts nights 1.6 demo on ABC is cancellation, TVD also got a 1.6 but half the audience....what does that say?

It says half of LR audience are over 50 and not counted, i don't expect this show to go past 13 eps.

It's a shame really. I'm enjoying this series a lot. It is by far the better of the new series that are out (Revolution, elementary).
I see it as light viewing. Doesn't need a lot of thought put into watching it. Something just to sit back and enjoy. If it goes after 13 episodes then so be it. I will enjoy it a long with the rest.

I was a bit disappointed with the pilot of this, to be honest. Ignoring some of the TV Norms Department stuff, i.e., I have a wife, blah blah...most of the land based stuff was pretty poor. I'll try another episode or two to see if it improves.

where did they get the miiltary jeeps and trucks?

They were in the UN compound. You can see them in a clip before they land on the island.
