basically, spinning will get you fit for spinning and running will get you fit for running

You are fit for what you train for.

Spinning will make you fit for spinning.

Running will make you able to run better.

A lot of cyclists use it as a method of training in the off season. IMO it is a good enough form of training for cycling fitness.

I would regard it as a good way to cross train
So if you are doing a lot of running, and want to improve your cardio fitness further then spinning is a good way to go
as are cycling, swimming, rowing and cross trainer

Due to the high intensity of the spinning for the time the class is on, you should burn a lot of calories - so its good for trimming the belly

I find that a solid couple weeks of swimming gets me noticeably fitter when I run, even if I don't run much. As in it is good for interval running i.e. for football.

Was about to start a thread on this.....good to look before you leap!!

Looking to lose another stone and a cross training method so you have found spinning usefull for burning calories and trimming belly fat?
It should also help build up weak leg muscles too, yeah?
    What about weak glutes?

Spinning is zero impact, so it may just have been a result of switching to impact. I was in pieces when I started playing touch rugby, despite cycling a hundred K a week for the year before that.
