need to lose about 3 stone... i've been trying to eat better for the past while - cutting out fatty foods, reduce portion sizes, cut down on snacking - and I have access to weights and cross trainer/exercise bike, which I use 2/3 times a week, get to a gym with more equipment every once in a while (job requires lots of travel, hard to keep a routine... i know, sounds like an excuse already!) but i dont seem to be getting anywhere, despite doing this for quite some time... advice please?

What do you weight already? I heard it gets harder to lose more weight the skinner you get, lower metabolism to keep a certain amount of fat in your body.

Maybe you could try upping the intensity of your training, doing intervals, not a pro at this but this is the information i gathered from research.

16.5 stone, BMI just over 30, want to get down to 12/13... i've cut down on red meat and carbs, cut out smoking, stopped snacking, doing as much exercise as i can but dont have a specific plan, just doing as much exercise as i have time for

All comes down to the time you have on your hands, could you make time in the morning by getting up an hour earlier?

If you could go to the gym then and then a light jog in the evening this will get get fat burning in no time.

The fittest people around make time to work on their health, so if you cant make time then you may just be patient with your progress and keep to healthy food all the time.

    More exercise isn't the answer.

    Better diet is.

No it doesn't not if the diet isn't sorted.

Exercise will speed up weight loss if the diet is sorted.
If the diet isn't sorted then it won't do anything. You can't out-train a bad diet.

    So as Hanley said

Cutting out fat wont correlate in how much fat is in your body. You need to keep the good ones in your diet! If you're keeing the carbs low, up your good fats!
    Post up your diet

Have a read of my post of a different thread!
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=77144140&postcount=9

If anybody wants to contradict what I said feel free but i'm just going on what I've personally experienced and what has worked for me.
I was 17st 7ish over a year and a half ago and weighed my self this morning at 13st 12 (50+ pounds lost and counting)

And I fully agree with the lads above, More exercise does not always speed up the weight loss. I was going to the gym for 6 months at one stage(2 years ago) and because of a bad diet, after them six months I lost hardly anything!
Your Diet is prob the most important thing.
