How long do protein powders last?

Last feb i bought 2 tubs of slenderpro protein mix http://www.nutritionx.ie/slender-pro/ which i used for a month or so but then stopped. Anyway, back on the training wagon now and am wondering if these (opened) tubs would still be ok? The bb date is September 2012 so technically they're still ok , there's nothing on the side of the pack to indicate how long they stay good once you've opened them. In truth im not even sure i want/need to take them but think they make help me out if im stuck for a post w/o protein fix....plus, my husband gives out to me for throwing out ....quote... 'perfectly good foods' :rolleyes:

I know people that have taken full tubs of protein that were 1 year or more past their 'best before' date. As long as it was kept dry, you should be fine.

Sorry to hijack this thread but I ordered a tub of Optimum Nutrition and when I got it the inside seal was broken. Rang the crowd that I ordered it from and they sent a new one but never took back the first one.

Would it be ok to use?

I'd say so. If it was me, I'd use both anyway.

Generally, the first thing to go off is the flavouring as opposed to the protein itself so, if you like, you could do a taste test of both to see if they taste hugely different (I'd imagine they'll both be perfect).

Was the black plastic around the lid broken?

In the inner seal can open when screwing opening the tub.

The outter seal was closed.

The inner one was already broken because there was powder all over the half the top of the seal (not sure if i've explained that properly)

I know with other tubs of ON that I've bought that the seal can come off when i'm taking the lid off.

Should be fine then.

As long as moisture didn't get near it, it would be okay. Believe me if moisture got near whey and was left there, you'd know it.

Also never open a shaker that has left over dribble of whey shake in it from a few days ago. The horror! :eek:
