this is my diet and its going wellish enough.I have a few issues though.

    1-I'm starving between 3 and 7,starving!

2 could you improve it anyway at all, foods, bigger breakfasts?bigger lunch?types of foods and all that.

I'm lifting weights 3 times a week and doing a cardio day too.all assistance and/or tweaking of diet welcome and will take on board.

breakfast-porridge with a banana,8 blueberries and a spoon of sesame seeds in it.I also drink an egg.

snack-3 slices of ham, fistful of grated cheese and half a red onion.also an apple.

    lunch-basmati rice(about 20 grams)fistfull of broccoli,and 2 peppered beef steaks.

dinner-2 chicken breasts,in 2 slices of wholewheat bread with mayonnaise, red onion, carrots and cheese.

help me improve it please.all help welcome.

If you're starving between lunch a dinner, why not adding some snack meal there as well? I eat roughly every 3 hours, when I start feeling hungry.

Re. portion sizes it's hard to say anything not knowing your weight and height.

I'm in my 5th week of a high protein, low carb diet. So far it's working really well with 19lb lost, although my weight will spike by 2 or 3 pounds over the coming weekend. Another 10lb to go to get to my ideal weight. I eat a high protein breakfast within half an hour of waking. It's normally a smoothie - mixed berries, a banana, natural yogurt, one egg and a small drop of honey. Lunch is a salad and dinner is lean meat or fish plus two portions of vegetables. Drink loads of water. The first couple of weeks on low carb were tough as I was starving every evening plus I found my energy levels quiet low. I've adjusted to it now and rarely feel hungry. My energy levels are sky high. I'm doing a lot of resistance training with cardio thrown in every couple of days too. I read a book called "The 4 Hour Body" by Tim Ferriss. A lot of people don't rate this book and while I don't follow it to the letter I did get an awful lot of useful information from it. I've been trying to lose weight for years and this is the first thing that has worked. I even went as far as training for and running a marathon last year. To my surprise I lost very little weight while doing this and I think the reason is that I was dependent on carbs for energy and ended up eating large amounts of them to enable myself to run the long distances necessary.

Low carb? But yet you eat berries, bananas, 2 portions of veg & salad?

You are aware of what low carb is?

It depends on what your definition of low carb is. When I say low carb I'm referring to white carbs - spuds, pastas, breads, etc. I'm not worried about carbs I get from fruit, veg, salads.

Well then your definition of a low carb diet is failed.

Fruit are very carb heavy. I'm currently doing a Ketosis based diet which is almost carb free, so I am now as a result very aware of carb high foods (to avoid)

Eat 5 or 6 times a day. Healthy snacks should stop the hunger at these times.

Limit your intake of fruit. I know it's only a banana, but I've stopped eating them for the most part - full of carbs and sugar.

snack-3 slices of ham, fistful of grated cheese and half a red onion.also an apple.

Drop the cheese altogether. Try and use lean meats instead of deli meats.

    lunch-basmati rice(about 20 grams)fistfull of broccoli,and 2 peppered beef steaks.

    Switch to brown rice

dinner-2 chicken breasts,in 2 slices of wholewheat bread with mayonnaise, red onion, carrots and cheese.

Ditch the mayo, bread and cheese. Maybe some sweet potato or wholewheat pasta and peppers and tiny bit of pesto for some favour, for example.

help me improve it please.all help welcome.

Now I realise it might seem a bit too idealistic in a health buzz way, but it's the best way! :) I think!

Yeah, you're right! My definition of a low carb diet is failed. But it's no fun saying I'm on a "no carbs from spuds, breads, pastas, etc but am happy to have carbs found in fruits, veg, salad, while eating a relatively high protein breakfast" diet. Feel free to redefine my diet if you so wish...!!!

You really need to figure out how many calories you're consuming vs how much you burn.

    That's all that really matters.

    {edit}That's a bit too simplistic; protein, carb and fat breakdowns are important too but calorie count is the priority for weight loss{/edit}

Just a quick question on this:

Im male, 6 foot, 27 and 16 and half stone. Looking to lose weight but not too fast.

I go gym 4 mornings a week, 15 mins on bike (warm up) and then 30 mins walking at a good fast pace and light weights with many reps 3 times a week in the evenings.

Main thing I'm worried about is for lunch every day I have a breaded chicken wrap!!!
Other than that I have a protein shake for breakfast, few nuts or an apple or 11am, wrap for lunch at 2, another apple or nuts at 3 and for dinner is always low carb. Most times just chicken, steak, eggs etc.

Is the breaded wrap for lunch killing me on a low carb diet, trying to loose 3.5 stone in 7 months, give or take...

Multiply your body weight in lbs by 12. Eat that many calories a day. While aiming for 1g of protein per lb of bodyweight.

So if you are 180lbs, eat 2160 calories with 180g protein.

Cut the fistful of cheese, very calorie dense.
I doubt you need 2 steaks and 2 chicken breast a day. Unless they are small. Maybe split these up and spread them out to curb hunger. Cut the bread and mayo down.

You just cutting down opn bread and pasta. no need for a trendy label. Ditto for "white carbs".

I'd rather get my carbs from potato than some fruit (sugar) tbh.

    A breaded wrap?
You know thats a bad choice. Just make your own from chicken breast.

    YES

If you try to lose weight through cutting carbs you should at least do the whole hog and, you know, actually cut down on carbs. To below 20g per day for example, and most of the 20g should be from veg.
Ive lost 1 stone in about 3-4 weeks doing this and have another 2 or so to go.

below 20grams a day?explain please.if I cut the bread, and rice and porridge altogether and have more veg and chicken?

i've been eating about a fistful portion of each fruit and veg to get my 5+ a day.although i've only been loosing a lb a week my skin is clearer and I feel fresher.
what would be a sample diet of 20grams carbs a day?

will the porridge have to go?I'd be lost without it!

Porridge and fruit would have to go.

Do you log your food in myfitnesspal or fitday? Those sites break down your food intake into carbs, protein, fat, sugar etc so you'd be able to see where the majority of your carbs are coming from.

    Stop, you're killing him! :)

Since when is low carb 20g a day?? That's keto levels. For me, anything <150g is low carb (at least it prevents insidious weight gain...)

Keto is probably < 50g, depending on activity levels
    VLC is 50-70
    LC is 70-150
Normal carb is up to 300
    High Carb is >300

    For me.

You don't need to torture yourself with ketosis, if what you're doing leads to 1 lbs loss a week, keep at it.

    thanks rocky!I like your style.

I'm going to start a log though, seems the right thing to do.Im not one for eating sweets and stuff though when I'm out in the van,I always bring chicken and fruit with me.all good.the porridge with all the stuff in the bowl keeps me full, eating a big lunch too helps me a lot.
