Ok, so your most recent RTE2 show saw abominable audience figures and the biggest snooze fest ever. No bother... here's a live show twice a week!

Just saw an ad for this, the show looks and sounds extremely similar to The Social alright...

RTE don't seem to know what to do with this guy.

Craig Doyle Live - No thanks RTE

What kind of contracts do they sign at RTÉ? Multi-year, multi-programme deals they're obliged to honour no matter how poor the talent?
Unless he has an uncle in RTÉ, there's simply no other explanation for the continued employment of Craig Doyle.

    More licence money pissed away.
"oh, lets see if we can make this square peg fit in the round hole for the millionth time, shur it's gotta work sometime, and anyway we are doing the public a service"

Caught the happy smiley trailer for this last night. My main thought was why would anyone even think of watching a third rate hack interviewing other non entities? I suspect we can guess a typical line up right now. a member of the stand up comedy Murphia, tv show Gardening experts, minor tv show entrepreneurs, GAA wives.

There are many serious problems in RTE. One of the worst is their Programme Development.

Their approach seems to be to sign up 'star' names and then find programmes for them. This is the wrong way around. It stifles creativity and leads to these bland vehicles for their chosen ones. Craig Doyle and Grainne Seoige are the main culprits.

I wrote a post about this phenomena on the radio forum, the (lazy) obsession of RTE that is building a show around a name and that name then is presumed to carry said show regardless of anything else (with the result that Marian Finucane didn't have any Marian for much of last year).

Problem: 'The Social' was on once a week and was a massive failure.

RTE Solution: Change the name to Craig Doyle Live and put it on twice a week.

Craig Doyle might have the least amount of personality on television anywhere. How he gets multiple opportunities to fail is beyond belief.

    Was Doyle fired from ITV/BBC?

Yeah, the main problem people had with the old show was that it just wasn't on often enough. Those six Craig Doyle-less nights just tore me apart

He still presents Rugby on ITV4, I don't think he has worked for the BBC for a while. Craig Doyle presents a huge amount of adverts, both here and in the UK

His Agent should get his finger out, his profile needs updating.
In April 2010 Craig took the infamous seat as the presenter of ‘Tonight with Craig Doyle’ on RTE 1. Currently Craig also presents The Panel on RTE 1.

'Tonight with Craig Doyle' and 'The Panel' have both been axed. 'The Social' has come and gone, and presumably 'Craig Doyle Tonight' will also be scrapped before too long.

Can this clown NOT have a show without her?

The only thing I've ever liked Doyle in was that UPC ad where he came into his mother's house all enthusiatic and she looked at him as if to go "Oh, FFS..."

Saw the ad for CD Live earlier and thought it looked awful. RTE need to stop trying to force certain people into shows that don't work for them. We have talent in Ireland, but you wouldn't know it watching RTE sometimes.

RTE will never learn. How many times over the years did they subject us to Gerry Ryan on the telly ?

Currently watching this on RTE player to give it a try. One thing that is annoying me is that you can see the panelists reading their pre-prepared jokes off a page and then regurgitating them when the relevant topic is brought up. Where is the spontaneity and comedy genius we see on Have I Got News For You or Mock the Week? I'm sure most amateur panel comedians will have a page with notes jotted down on it for reminders but at least be discreet when you're checking it. This just seems forced and a case of "you say your joke and then I'll say mine and then next topic" and repeat.

Awkward joke by Louis Walsh to Craig Doyle: (referring to Westlife) "Unlike you, they get work outside the country!"

    Ouch.

All RTE shows seemed to be designed to show extracts of other RTE shows.

Do we really need a thread for each edition? :p

I was just watching the Singing Detective on BBC4 as should you have been. RTE rots the brain.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,709 ✭✭✭shrewdness

I haven't watched this yet but I can only imagine the shyte. He should never get near a tv show again as it seems like anything with him involved gets cancelled.

Not great but certainly superior to anything from Brendan O'Connor or Kathleen Lynch.

Horrible show last night. The best they could come up wity was gay sexual innunedo for most of the night. Just crude and vulgar crap. Really really bad, and so devoid of any entertainment.

I see the Mentalist every Thursday now. It is hundred times better than Craig Doyle live IMO.

I had also seen the ad for The Social and I thought; No, it is not for me.

Why havent RTE copped that us women want to stare at him...and not hear him talk. A screenshot of him for an hour would do just as good and save 'em a small fortune. He's bland as feck, but better than Tubs to gawk at by a mile.:D

Anyone remember The End about ten years ago with Barry Murphy on Friday night and Sean Moncriff on Sat night. Maybe It's just me but that was a giggle back then.
