Cheltenham multiples

Every year i do my customary multiples in the hope of hitting it big at Cheltenham (Big to me may be small to some of you) I still feel sick to my stomach at the thought of Baby run unshipping WTD at the second last in the Foxhunters and costing me €1200 :(

Anyway here's what i'll be doing this year, I know this is a 6 horse accum but i strongly fancy all 6 and they form the basis for all my multiples. Plus if i make it through day 1 it'll give me a nice sweat.

    Hurricane fly
    Sprinter sacre
    Quevega
    Sizing europe
    Long run
    Big bucks

    €10 - €650

    My main one

    Quevega
    Long run
    Big bucks

    €50 - €400

I have more but i won't bore you any longer, Anyone else done any they would like to share?

I opened your file huck, are they various combinations that you have listed down the left column or how does it work?

Each shaded section is one bet, I took out the stakes ;)

15bets in total..is this the final sheet huckle or are you open to change? Have you worked out how much you'd win if they all came in? :-)

Where would the fun be in just 15 :D. The first 10 or so I did before Christmas and the ones with SS I did lately.

I will do quite a few more, I am waiting for the final declarations before I do anymore and so I can run my form program and weed out all bar two or three a race and then select from looking at them racing to see are they as I think they are.

If the obvious ones win I should be good to the tune of 10k not to mention all the single bets I have too.

I am going to the first three days and bringing another 600 or so to bet with.

    Hurricane Fly
    Big Bucks
    Sizing Europe
    Sprinter

    €50 = €668

Have most of you done the multiples on Ante Post terms or NRNB terms? Couldn't see myself going over the top on multiples until NRNB is in play. Would be happy to take the slightly shorter odds as well for the guarantee it gives.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,706 ✭✭✭premierstone

I have done the Hurricane Fly, Sizing Europe, Quevega, Sprinter Sacre and Big Bucks bet, its done as cross trebles, fourfolds and an accum and tbh I'm very very happy with the bet.

Nice return if they all come in! I meant final 15 of multiples as I know how mad you've been going on zarkander..an the nice late arrival to the club hisaabaat..watched that race again last night in leopardstown. He may have a better chance than I initially suspected

Ive done a few multiples this year, as im going again this year, and generally on course i wont back too many shorties (this has worked so far since i started going to the festival). Ive done them because under normal circunstances a load of favs winning would be a disaster for me, and it rarely happens at the festival, but I get the feeling there are too many favs that have too much in hand not to have something on them..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,289 ✭✭✭✭mdwexford

What was the year all the favs were going in, 2003 actually.

    Back In Front 3/1 fav
    Azertyuiop 5/4 fav
    Inching Closer 6/1 fav
    Moscow Flyer 7/4 fav
    Xenophon 4/1 fav
    Liberman 2/1 fav
    Baracouda 9/4 fav
    Best Mate 13/8 fav
    Kingscliff 11/4 fav
    La Landiere 5/4 fav

    10 favs from 20 races.
Wouldnt mind a day like that Thursday again. :)

Oh god I was the opposite I had just moved to Dublin and was financially struggling shall we say, but I had 6 of those 10 listed and a few others aswell Rhinestone Cowboy and Pizzaro are the only two bad results I can remember from that festival, if both of them had of won I would probably be dead now such would have been the alcohol consumption!

Have these done up so far:
EW acca of HF, Long Run, Sprinter Sacre, Scotsirish and Sizing Europe.

EW Treble of Mourad (w/o BB), Sir Des Champs and Noble Prince.

WIN acca of HF, Quevega, Sizing Europe and Sprinter Sacre @ 9/1.

Might go for the kill with a Quevega/Big Bucks double that pays around 6/4. Can't see beyond either in each race.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,173 ✭✭✭hucklebuck

Did this one, to get the ball rolling on Tuesday:

    Darlan
    Sprinter Sacre
    Quantitativeeasing
    Hurricane Fly
    Zarkandar W/O HF
    Scotsirish
    Quevega

€5 returns €11,500 or more depending on BOG.

Zarkandar - Betfair Hurdle - Won
    Midnight Game
    Quevega
    Big Bucks

    €10 returns over €1,000

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,224 ✭✭✭jimjamcos

Best odds guaranteed i.e. if the horse's SP is bigger than the price you take then you get the bigger price.

But wasn't sure when BOG kicked in for ante-post.

Sizing Europe is the hotpot id take on at the moment, have a sneaky feeling Finian's Rainbow is going to put in a big one.

Quevega is much too short at 4/7 if Unaccompanied runs, probably her biggest challenge but her shortest price in four years.

    Finians is not very good.

But aside from that nearly everyone I've spoke to, like 90% of people are on the SS, BB, HF, SE and Quevega acca.

If a couple of those get beat the bookies will take over the world.

But i couldnt say who wont win as they look strong.

SS is the one of the 5 I'd avoid if pushed

Most people say that when pushed but really the only reason they nominate him is because its the Arkle, neither the opposition or anything he has done as of yet as a chaser suggest he will be overturned.

Yea but as we all know there's always one that lets you down! It looks too easy to be true, the odds say one (if not more) will be beaten, I just dont have a clue which one it'll be! ha maybe Big Bucks??

Agree. Considering adding 4 variations of gold cup winner to the above. Long run , kauto, button port and grans crus?

    Anyone any views on this?

I'd say there's enough money on this treble to bail out a small european country! Only got 7/2 but can't see any of them being challenged at all?

Someone get on to Enda to stick the budget on this :D

there is a few horses in there to challenge hurricane fly.
e/w backers will be on the other top 6 in race. i personally think zarkander can challenge hurricane
the betting w/o hurricane is interesting

as easy as it seems, you still wouldnt want to be betting any more than 10% of your betting bank on any bet..

It's about half of my Cheltenham bank.iv been saving for Cheltenham for the last couple of months.if I lose I still have half to make some money back.while its not the most sensible way to make a long term profit I just can't see past it .maybe a smaller bet?.or Any other tips?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,335 ✭✭✭✭UrbanSea

I like Binocular for the Champion but each to their own. I wouldn't advise staking half your Cheltenham bank on a double

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,102 ✭✭✭jimini0

i think everyone is putting too much faith on hurricane fly. remember back in 2010 when dunguib was everyones banker. i have been very cautious since then about piling money on odds on favourites.
i know hurrican fly and dunguib or two different horses but the same sh** can happen again

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39 eoghan_85

Don't think you're doing HF any justice there jimini by comparing this year with Dunguib in 2010. Dunguib had previously won the Bumper which was always going to be a totally different race to the Supreme and with the benefit of hindsight, the hype was totally over the top with him. One swallow never made a summer and that was very much the case regarding Dunguib 2 years ago with everyone reckoning he was unbeatable after one outstanding performance the year before.
HF is a proven Grade 1 winner, won the CH last yr in what was, IMO, a much more competitive race than this year.
That said - point taken regarding putting too much faith in one horse for the entire meeting and it could still all end in disaster!
But, I'm sure similar sentiments were expressed with Istabraq so no down talk is going to stop me from putting on my biggest bet of the meeting at 3 o clock on Tuesday!!

Although I certainly wouldn't compare the two, saying Dunguib had one outstanding performance is incorrect. He absolutely destroyed the Irish novices all year and he would have won the Supreme if he didn't do an extra lap of the course.
