6-car sets are often parked on top of(uncoupled) 3-car sets at Heuston. The 6-car leaves, then the 3-car leaves on another service. The full 9 cars come down from Portlaoise and then split on Heuston platform.

When no destination is set , the default setting for the external CIS screens on the 22000s just show the carriage letter(A-F).

    I think 22043 is a 6-car, maybe I'm wrong.
I have never seen that Doubling up of trains at platforms and would imagine it would be very confusing for passengers to have to walk past an empty train to get to their train?

Is that safe or even permitted? if the driver didn't bother with things like lights and displays and air-conditioning what were the safety checks before departure like?

I agree. Read http://www.raiu.ie/download/pdf/accident_connolly_2010.pdf, particularly the requirements for mobilizing a train on page 15. If something as obvious as the gigantic overinflated airbag are missed, it suggests something is wrong with procedures to me.

Pictures of it happening here. http://thewandererphotos.smugmug.com/2011/April-2011/16431028_4hRFGr#!i=1253166162&k=G2BmgKx&lb=1&s=A

Fairly sure it is still a common occurrence.

and the caption to the photo reads
Despite announcements that the Tralee service was the front 6 vehicles some passengers were still trying to board the out of service 22001
Even with announcements people were still trying to board the wrong train and if the out of service units had been ready to board passengers would most likely have got the wrong train!

The Limerick train with the smashed window earlier also made an unscheduled stop in Sallins to drop off two passengers who had boarded the wrong train, And exited through the drivers cabin onto the platform probably because the train had no side destination information displayed?

Train departures and assigning platforms in Heuston has always been disastrous with most trains not being announced till a few minutes before departure, Thomas's Fat Controller could do a much better job or even let Noddy or Bob the Builder at the job!
