They are nice alright. The only thing that bugs me about them is the date window.

Might be an idea for a thread. Here is the newly announced Marine Blue Chrono from Steinhart. Looks pretty nice.

Not unlike the vintage Blancplain Air command.

I have a serious hard on for that watch. Need to sell my gaff to buy one mind you... :D

The way the two minor dials cut the outer graph reminds me of the Strela.

    I like it....

The only problem with a thread like this is it only reminds me of the fantastic watches I cant afford..(except for the Formula 1)

The wife thinks this looks like a kids transformer watch LOL.

Wow on the price tag. 1.65 million.

I'm guessing this is out of the range of most peoples wallets here, or even combined wallets. Cool none the less.

Richard Mille RM056 with an all Sapphire case that takes 1000hrs to machine.

I would tend to agree with your wife.

It would make more sense as a clock. The movement is incredible looking but as a watch I don't think it works aesthetically.

Or an even closer copy of the Panerai Mare Nostrom.
But at a fraction of the price

'tis that alright ...only problem is you can't tell the time without squinting and/or putting your glasses on :D

    EDIT:

There's a chinese tourbillon movement out there, with a real flying tourbillon that also acts as second hand, a 24 h dial and a day/night indicator. Comes packaged in several Germasian mushroom brand varietes and can be yours for several hundreds ...if you're into tourbillons, that is.

Those DO actually still work as a watch, i.e. tell the time :D

    Example:

The new Omega Aqua Terra GMT

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,857 ✭✭✭Reloc8

They're really re-aligning the Aquaterras. I would previously have put it at 70% dress 30% sport. I think the balance is shifted the other way.

I had a look at and handled the new ones in Weirs today (I was trying to make sure I didn't want a Speedy Pro for my wedding watch). I'm conscious of my misgivings about the changes and my love of my 2500 co-axial (now there is a watch that is all dial), but I just didn't like that new dial, at all. That is until i realised that it was just not a dress watch anymore - and then it made a bit more sense.

I still reckon the 2500's are going to be quite sought after in the years to come, more so than the new release.

I really like the new Tissot Seastar. Diggin that bracelet.
No idea of price yet but should be under $1,000 anyway.

That Tissot is really nice, I actually have an original PR 516 GL from the 70's just like this one -

    Tissot-PR-516-GL-daydate2Tissot--1.jpg
(Not my actual watch, mine has English days and a few more scratches)

The only problem with it is that the day and date switch over is out of sync - they change alternately every time the hour hand passes 12 o'clock!

A $750k investment though? Do you have the shot of the back with the night sky?

Verrrrry nice IWC B. Kinda reminds me of the time I first read about the DaVinci from them way back in the day, with it's full year display that would work for centuries. Cool. I've seen sidereal time watches before. Patek did a very similar model to that IWC a few years back* and some military watches were set to sidereal time. There was a military issue Heuer bund that looked normal, but was set to such a time(rare as rocking horse droppings, especially with it's full pack with star charts). This IWC is very funky though. Nice price no doubt. :)

*I know Patek are supposed to be among the ultimate, but for me personally I think their designs are pretty gank looking, with a few rare exceptions like their calatrava models which are gorge. Way too many bling rapper type stuff too. A bit too "eurotrashy", more money than style to them.

    Here's the older Patek version;

    draft_lens11537561module106026921photo_1276541611PatekPhilippeSky1kj10-01-
Easier to read in some ways. more info directly accessible on the dial.

    That IWC is fab.

I've included it in my "if I ever won the Euromillions" list :D

What I like most about it is that it is as complicated as it gets, yet it still looks like (and works as) a watch ...it tells time at a glance.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,731 ✭✭✭Bullseye1

I'd have to win the big euro millions €100m to justify almost 1 million on a watch. LOL

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 60,217 Mod ✭✭✭✭Wibbs

TBH even if my 6 numbers came up I'd be designing and making my own for near a million quid. And come away with change. :D Other than the constant force tourbillon(and even there) they're not really ploughing new ground. See the Patek above. They've had that model since 04 IIRC(and had earlier similar models) Hell sidereal watches have a long history in watchmaking. The majority of complications in the IWC watch could be found in 100 year old pocket watches. Hell the tourbillon was around since Breguet had a few pints and though "what if" in the closing stages of the 18th century.

I wonder if this is the most expensive IWC? It seems to be a huge jump from their usual stuff.

IWC has had a Grande Complications range for quite a while. See some examples here....
