Jelly. Healthier alternative to sweet snacks?

    So in a bid to loose some more weight, im trying a healthier diet this past month, and have lost about half a stone so far :)

    But I often find myself reaching for a filling snack at night time, and cant always say no to it.

    What im wondering is, is Jelly a healthy snack?

    I may use a small bit of low fat/skimmed cream with it also.

    I find jelly to be very filling and satisfying as a treat or snack every once in a while, but since its mainly water, would it be healthy enough to eat a few times a week? Or is there lots of sugar/fat in jelly? Or are sugarfree jelly bars worth getting? Any brands of jelly I should look out for?

    cheers

    ok - sugar free jelly is full of aspartame which to some = the devil, but there are worse things out there and it certainly will help with cravings.

    also try - 0% fat natural yoghurt ( aldi 55c ) with a few drops of Vanilla extract or some such with a natural sweetner ( Xylitol is expensive ) - or Canderelle maybe.
    You could also look up recipes for coconut milk icecream which is superb - but depending what you are looking for may not be for you.

    god no :pac: Im not a fan of cheese in general

    Only a bit of cheddar in a sandwich is all I can take.

    @RobAMerc

    Why is that? Is aspartame not good for when on a diet or something?

    A nice low fat dessert - take a sugar free jelly - disolve as per pack instuctions but only add 3/4 of the water, make up to the full amount using v low fat natural yogurt. Whisk it to death to make sure properly blended. Put in the fridge to set. It tastes a bit like angel delight!

    I honestly don't know. I just read it a bit around here that it's not so good.

    Well I stopped taking it because it still causes a blood sugar spike and I knew my blood sugar was all over the place.
    I think if you can make a diluted mix and your portion equals 30-40 calories/1 spoon of sugar that shouldnt be too much for your body to digest at one time but if you're looking to loose weight a hit of sugar or aspartame especially in large doses is going to set you off balance.

    I used to drink a lot of sugar free cordial, diet coke etc. and it messes up my weight loss, you can look up about aspartame causing weight gain, some of it may seem like pseudo science but it is really bad for you, I have sugar free stuff once in a blue moon I think if you ingest it regularly over a long period of time it may cause more noticeable problems I suppose its a chemical that was never intended for human consumption so I would be skeptical!
