Anyone know what time the results are out?

Do you just check your portal page?

  • Moderators, Regional East Moderators Posts: 23,238 Mod ✭✭✭✭GLaDOS

    Said they'd be at 3.

They won't be available through the portal page, instead use this URL: http://examresults.dcu.ie

In final year myself, not feeling great about them :(

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

Same as me, looks like the ISS folks need a refresher course on Databases.

    ISS:
We are experiencing technical difficulties with the exam results system.
As a result, the system has been taken offline while we attempt to rectify the issues.

Please check the ISS Service Updates Twitter Account for the latest updates.

Surely it is fairly silly to release all the results at once. Could they not stagger the release of the results by year or something so that everyone is not trying to access at the same time.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,224 ✭✭✭✭SantryRed

    Once entered,

It says to not to reload the page, but also says that the database is temporarily unavailable. So do I reload the page or not?

Whole thing gone offline now. I can never really understand this, I mean it's not like they didn't know how many students would be trying to access the results or anything.

They should try staggered results - different programmes or maybe years getting results at different times e.g. 4th year results 9am, 3rd year results 11am etc. or maybe all CA results 9am, ALIS 10am, Nursing 11am or whatever.

That or don't state a time when results will be available - stop everyone logging on at the same time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,152 ✭✭✭carlowboy

They should say they're releasing them at 3, but actually release them at 11 or thereabouts. This will prevent everyone logging in at the same time.

That's what I don't get, I can understand it being slow as they mightn't buy the hardware just for one or two times a year of congestion but having to take it offline is incredible... does this sort of thing happen in all universities?

It's just lol that they changed the system so as to avoid this yet it's still a problem

Wooooooo Second class overall! Finished the masters!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,449 ✭✭✭Call Me Jimmy

Question: if all modules are 5 credits except for one, and that one is 15 credits, does that mean that mark will be weighted 3 times as much in the overall calculation for the year?

Yes, it is a weighted average of the module credit and grading.

Well done everyone, especially those in final year/masters etc!

Just a wee question - the results are given in percentages yes? How does one calculate an overall? Ie 1st class honours etc. When I was in UCD we got grades ie A+,A,A- etc which each cared a GPA mark. 1st class honours would then be a GPA above 3.61 or whatever. I'm only in 1st year now in DCU but curious as to how it works!

It depends on your course, since in my masters we do not have a 2.1 and 2.2 just a second class. I thinking it is 70%+ is a first 63-69% is a 2.1, 55-62 is a 2.2, 50-54 is third class and 40-49 is a pass. That's the way my undergrad was in 07 but that may have changed. It will say on the results form mailed out to you.

The marks and standards doc is here http://www.dcu.ie/registry/examinations/pdfs/M&S_version%202011.2.0.pdf

    NO.
Sorry but that not technically correct. It depending on the module weighting. Normally most modules have 100 weight associated with them for grade calculation purposes. But in some cases - particularly final year projects, etc can have a higher weight eg 300. Usually these also have a higher credit, but not always. Eg. 5 Vs 20 credits doesn't have to mean 100 Vs 400 weights. Best to check for your specific programme. Some modules like INTRA can be 30 or more credits and have 0 weight for grade calculation purposes.
Gets more confusing in programme's like CA and EC which have module groups in final year and individual modules have credits but no weight, the weighting belongs to the mother module.
    Confused yet

    It hasn't been like that since you graduated. 70+ is a 1.1, 60-69 is 2.1, 50-59 is 2.2 and 40-49 is 3.0

Yeah I think it changed a year after I left. I would have gone up a grade too!!

Passlists aren't available until the end of the year I think? Same way you aren't given a grade until the end of the year.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

True, I do believe all grades are preliminary until the end of year thus a pass list is not available until end of year.
