Felix Jones, Mike Shery and Tommy O'Donnell are all included in the 28 strong Munster squad that will travel to Italy in the morning for the RaboDirect PRO12 clash with Benetton Treviso on Saturday.

Also included are RBS Six Nations squad members Ronan O'Gara, Donnacha Ryan and Peter O'Mahony.
Jones returned to action for Shannon last weekend after almost seven months sidelined with foot ligament damage while O'Donnell limped out of the December league game against Ulster in Ravenhill with a knee injury. Sherry, injured in a club game, has been out of the Munster squad since the game against Edinburgh in Murrayfield in October.

Eleven players are unavailable through injury while Paul O'Connell, Donncha O'Callaghan and Conor Murray, who were all due to start in the game against France are unavailable for selection.

Keith Earls had been released back to play but he'll remain in Limerick to be with his partner and newly born baby girl.

    Munster Squad:
Marcus Horan, Wian du Preez, Stephen Archer, John Ryan, BJ Botha,
Denis Fogarty, Damien Varley, Sean Henry, Mike Sherry,
Donnacha Ryan, Billy Holland, Mick O'Driscoll,
Tommy O'Donnell, Dave O'Callaghan, Peter O'Mahony, James Coughlan, Paddy Butler,

Duncan Williams, Tomas O'Leary, Cathal Sheridan,
    Ronan O'Gara, Scott Deasy,
    Lifeimi Mafi, Danny Barnes,
Simon Zebo, Johne Murphy, Denis Hurley, Felix Jones.

    Not considered because of injury:
David Wallace (knee), Troy Smith (knee), Jerry Flannery (calf), Darragh Hurley (back), Tom Gleeson (shoulder), Doug Howlett (achilles), Denis Leamy (hip), Niall Ronan (knee), Dave Foley (shoulder), Ian Nagle (shoulder), Luke O'Dea (shoulder).

    http://www.munsterrugby.ie/news/10112.php

Bad time for LOD and Nagle to be unavailable.

    I'd like to see:
    du Preez, Sherry, Botha, Ryan, Holland, DOC2.0, POM, Coughlan;
TOL, ROG, Zebo, Mafi, Barnes, Jones, Hurley

Bench: Varley, Horan, Archer, MOD, Butler, Williams, Deasy, Murphy

I think it would be harsh to drop Hurley so I'd leave him at 15 and put Jones on the wing.

The game is on RAI in Italy, I don't know if it being broadcasted by RTE/TG4. Hopefully it will be given it's not a Six Nations weekend and we need to watch some rugby!

Its on RTE2, coverage starts at 3pm. At least we get a bit of a rugby fix at the weekend.

Got a knock playing AIL against Shannon at the weekend afaik

  • Jesus, lot of shoulder injuries on that list!

Have they been tackling some of John Hayes' cattle for training or something?

Great to see Jones and Sherry return after what were reasonably long injuries, terrible time for Nagle to go down with an injury especially after missing out due to the postponement of the Aironi game last week.

    When's Wallace back?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,433 ✭✭✭✭thomond2006

Ronan O'Gara, Donnacha Ryan and Peter O'Mahony will all be in the Munster starting XV when they resume their RaboDirect PRO12 campaign at the Stadio Monigo

Also included in the match day squad is Felix Jones who has been named on the bench as is Tommy O'Donnell. It's the first time this season that Jones has been named in a Munster squad after suffering a foot injury in the August international against France while O'Donnell has been out since the Ulster game in December.

    Mick O'Driscoll captains the side.

    Munster:
    D Hurley; J Murphy, D Barnes, L Mafi, S Zebo; R O'Gara, T O'Leary;
    W du Preez, D Varley, BJ Botha; D Ryan, M O'Driscoll capt; Dave O'Callaghan, P O'Mahony, J Coughlan.

    Replacements: D Fogarty, M Horan, S Archer, B. Holland, T O'Donnell, D Williams, S Deasy, F Jones.

No Sherry which is disappointing. Otherwise no surprise. Hopefully Jones will get a good 20 minutes off the bench.

Big chance for Dave O'Callaghan too, with Wallace to come back he needs to put a marker down to remain in the HEC 23.

Really strong team, about 2/3s of our first team, probably as strong as team as we can put out. Hopefully we get on top and let some guys on the bench get on early enough.

Shame that Sherry didn't make it, but I guess there's no need to rush him back, there's a good run of games from here on.

Great to see Dave O'C in there, hope he has a good game.

    Treviso beat us last year.

Very disappointed that Sherry didnt make the squad and would liked to see Keatley get game time too even though ROG was always going to start because of the 6Ns.

Great to see TOD and Jones make a return from injury, hopefully both will get gametime.

From our home game against Treviso in TP earlier this season , we're short POC, Earls, Murray, Keatley and DOC and in their place we've got Deasy, Jones, TOD, MOD and Dave O'Callaghan.

A game we need to and should win and a BP would be sweet.

Keatley is injured anyway. It is a pity about Sherry.

Hopefully Jones will come on and make an impact. It's a pretty strong team.

Is it a slight surprise that MOD is captain ahead of ROG and POM?? Were they not ahead of him earlier in the season?

Good to see DOC2 starting again. If he can get a run of games he might settle down and show what he can do. It could also be a chance for Scot Deasy. He has been flaoting around the squad for a few years now so its important for him that he takes every opportunity going.

I can't see Deasy making it, though I think he's a decent player. The likes of Barnes and Zebo have graduated to the first team while Hanrahan will probably get Pro12 opportunities next season. O'Dea and Scanlon have also got starts ahead of Deasy. When Deasy got chances, it corresponded with Felix Jones being injured.

The only position he'll get anywhere with Munster is outhalf. 11-15 is overloaded with better/younger players. I'd like to see him play 80 minutes at 10 in a Pro12 game, Cusack hasn't looked anything special and is injury prone. Perhaps during a Six Nations weekend when ROG will be with Ireland.

Tbh I'm not too put out about Sherry. He'll come through, good to see he's not being rushed back into action after injury.

I knew Keatley was injured I just meant that it would be good if he was getting game now.

Re MOD being captain, I'd imagine that Micko was supposed to be captain for the 2 games in Italy and the lads were only dropped in when the 6Ns games was cancelled.

I tend to agree with you but it would be nice to see him back playing. I suppose 80 minutes AIL gametime will ease him back.

It's almost a month since Munster had a game, I hope we're not rusty. Leinster looked poor last night and they had a game the previous week. I hope we settle early and get a foothold on the game. It's a must win game and a BP would be very welcome.

I can't see it being dominated by Munster early in the game. I foresee an arm-wrestle for the first 40 before Munster start getting things right. Leinster felt the effects of letting heavily trained/travelled players back into the squad from the Irish setup last night, when previously the 2nd and 3rd choice players had a blinder. Expect to see uncharacteristic mistakes from ROG and blind agression from PoM (that may lead to one too many pens against Munster). Treviso at home are a completely different side to what we see on the road. It'll be a tough test, and possibly what Munster need to get going again after such a break. Can't see a BP on offer for Munster, but may be wrong, hard to tell with so many players lacking game time. Looking forward to it now...

    Rog converts 7-0

    ROG kick. 0-17

That was a stupid high tackle on Barnes. ROG gets the points, 17-0, lots of mistakes from Treviso...almost suicidal stuff so far.

Great grubber from ROG, finished by Murphy. Zebo will be relieved because he butchered a chance earlier.

Utter capitulation here by Treviso, I've never seen them so bad at home. Munster playing excellent stuff at the same time.
