Not every county, as I went looking for the Carlow one and couldn't find it...was looking forward to seeing us with a nice jersey for once!
Then I counted the teams and they have only 18 of the county jerseys up.

    Most of them look CAT!

    Oh look, Limerick's is...the same. Shocker. :)

Presumably there's no point doing it with the county jerseys that are predominately green such as Kerry, Carlow, Fermanagh, Limerick, Meath etc.

I find it really stupid that they will do this but they will not do a run of the Dublin "SOS" jersey. There has been a huge amount of interest and a cut of the proceeds could go to the very worthwile charity.

And before anyone says it, I have said it a few times now I don't think voda would stand in the way of this if there was a push on it. There is no way in hell they would want the bad publicity of standing in the way and stopping a lot of money going to SOS.

Put in a new green pair of socks or a towel into the wash with your own jersey and fanny's your aunt .....

Ok fair enough no Carlow, noone even knows where that is (:P) but no Mayo is disgraceful! They have Limerick in all green. It's exactly same as their regular jersey.

That's because it is their regular jersey. The Limerick one on that page isn't a special edition.

    Lovin the Westmeath one.

Stupid idea really. Can't see this taking off.

    And the jerseys are sh1t.

I would imagine that they are only doing jersey's for counties which they supply jerseys for, I would imagine Azzurri wouldn't be inpressed if they were to start making jerseys they have the contract for, although I can't understand why Carlow aren't there as they supply their jersey

Dublin jersay is gank, can't see them selling to many of those.......

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,921 ✭✭✭Gophur

Tipp and Clare people are expected to wear Kerry colours?

    A strange concept.

I guess their doing this to chase a market of GAA followers heading to Poland this summer.

i really hope they haven't invested too heavily in this, it beggars belief, are they selling them at a reduced price? who is going to buy them?

i'll hit the factory shop in Walkinstown when i'm home next to pick up a load of them on the cheap for training gear after this idea implodes

I want one anyway! I presume it is really targeted at the people who have emigrated.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,551 ✭✭✭SeaFields

It's the Cork jersey, except it's green?

Eh, no thanks O' Neills, you're grand.

westmeath one is the old jersey, they have a new sponsor now.

Bang on. A marketing ploy by the GAA/O'Neills.

Thats what I will be doing a few weeks after St Patricks weekend. Should be selling them off cheaper

Wexford and Kilkenny jerseys are an improvement in my opinion.

Anyone know if they're doing a pink ladies jersey for Mayo- doesn't seem to be listed on the site??

There will be pink jerseys issued for every county eventually.

It does seem plausible these shirts are aimed at those poor saps who are incapable of travelling abroad without wearing their GAA shirt, and who want to portray their irishness, at the same time.

Eh? Big jump of contemptuous logic there. If anything it'd sell more to the diaspora, with people buying the jerseys of their families' counties.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 7,102 ✭✭✭Stinicker

The Kerry jersey is looking its same old excellent self. They should have added a Gold hoop to the Cork jersey and force them to wear it! I'd lol at that!

That wouldn't bother me, I think its nice, the only thing that would put me off is, much like a couple of Westmeath lads were saying, our sponsor is all but void at this stage so thats what would put me off.

I can see your point about Leitrim colours but to be honest, Leitrim never bothered me that much. They hate us and I think its funny.

Bit of pride in their roots, native sports, county etc.? Bit of an over-reaction on your part. I know that if/when I go abroad I would wear my jersey, good to know you are not alone when you see some other people that recognise your jersey.

Bit of pride in their roots, native sports, county etc.? ...........

Nah. It's sad, even pathetic, that some people feel the need to be so parochial.

Football shirts belong on players, on the field.

Fcuk that, I'm proud of where I'm from and proud to wear my county's jersey so other people know where I'm from. #Represent! :p

Its not down to parochialism, and its certainly not sad or pathetic, I take umbrage with that comment.

I was going to reply calling you a troll. What I will say is that you are entitled to your opinion, and the people who wear their jerseys are as equally entitled.

In short, chill out because there are far worse things to be annoyed about.

Your almost sneering at the fact people wear GAA jerseys though you still took the time to pop into the gaa forum? Strange.

And hey if my irishness gets me laid with a few hot foreign birds abroad who love my accent then id be glad to portray it. :D

    2. I comment on many things, not just the one.

    .............

How strange? I can be a GAA member and supporter without having to walk the streets with my club/county jersey on. Fair enough on a child, but not on an adult.

    Classy.

How does the proceeds of shirt sales contribute for players to get the right to play on the field? Players' rights to get on the field have no relation to shirt sales.

Last time I looked, I was allowed an opinion. I don't get this adult wearing GAA shirt out and about. It's tribal and infantile. I have no interest in knowing where other people are from, or what sports team they support.

    Gophur wrote: »

Actually, no, I don't. Parochialism is narrow-mindedness. I'm not narrow-minded, I didn't say I hate other counties, I'm just proud of where I'm from and I don't see anything wrong with wearing a shirt that is representative of that fact from time to time.

In the assertion of your opinion you come across as quite condescending, using words such as infantile, sad and pathetic. Any need for it, really?

Those are bizarre. Why would a Tipperary fan want to go around looking like a Kerry fan?

(cue obvious comments about it being an improvement etc etc)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,687 ✭✭✭✭jack presley

Hasn't the 'Wearing county jersies abroad' argument being done to death at this stage?

The two sides to this are so far apart and neither side is going to convince the other that they're wrong.

Saw the first page of jerseys and thought they looked pretty good. Looked for the Wexford one one page 2 and was horrified. Every other jersey looks great, that one looks like absolute shíte.

Lots of people deriding O'Neills for this idea but what is wrong with trying to drum up a bit of business in these recessionary times?

I can't see these selling well but they will become collectors items in years to come.

    That's one definition.

It also defines someone "Of, relating to, supported by, or located in a parish", and is used to relate to other small geographical spreads, like district, street, or county.

Fair enough, street or parish - I think county is stretching the meaning a bit.

Anyway we'll agree to disagree, you think its a stupid thing to do to wear your county's shirt, most of the rest of us don't.

    From the faceboook page.
This week we launched our Go Green campaign featuring county jerseys in an unfamiliar shade of green. These supporters’ jerseys are designed for Irish people home and abroad to show their colours on St Patrick’s Day.

After that, you can wear them to training, during the Euros this summer, to a match – wherever suits you!

Certainly for some fans they’ll take a bit of getting used to! If you like them, tell your friends! The response has been great.

It’s all a bit of craic to give you the option of a unique item for St Patrick’s Day that you can show your county and country on one shirt. Designed and manufactured here in Ireland for St Patrick’s Day!

Training players cost money. Without revenue there wouldnt be enough money to fund training sessions and shirt sales are one such item that generate an decent amount of revenue in terms of funding the county board. Simple Economics really.

Cummins could actually use it seeing as its the Ballybacon-Grange colours :)

Gophur, you aren't into wearing the jersey, we get it. But to call adults who wear the jersey when out and about "tribal and infantile" is just plain ridiculous. Firstly, I buy the jersey mainly for attending games so that I wear my teams colours at the game as a show of support. Its the "colour" in Croke park on big match days that add to the special occasion. Now after this should I only wear the jersey I spent 60 odd quid on when at games ten or so times a year for fear of being sneered by the likes of you?
Cop yourself on for feck sake.

Regarding the green jerseys, not for me but each to their own, certainly no need to be sneering at people over it.
