How healthy is this as a breakfast?

Handful of frozen blueberries, half an avocado, handful of oats, handful of spinach, half a bannana, water and honey blended into a smoothie. Ive been having that a few days a week.

Altough ive read some stuff on here saying smoothies are not that healthy and should be only had as a treat. Is that because when its bleneded the nutrional value is lost? Im having this to try improve my mental wellbeing more than my physical health by the way. I usually just have porridge. Any opinions would be great, thanks.

yeah...what do u think is unhealthy about it?
    I had a whopper this morning...3 scoops of vanilla protein/creatine mono/blueberries/raspberries/banana/peanut butter/frozen yoghurt/orange juice and milk...........f*ckin deadly!

btw, no nutrition is lost in blending.:)

It's not something I'd call a smoothie so don't need to worry about that? Just random fruit/veg/oats thrown into some water with honey?? Sounds healthy enough, just very strange!

I can't imagine it's very nice! I just have porridge most days with some fruit, banana/orange/kiwi.

A lot of (most!) people put juice into their smoothies, juice is not a good way of getting your vits/fibre in and is mostly just sugar. A lot of people also have a smoothie as a drink to accompany a meal.

I think your smoothie sounds very healthy, but more knowledgeable people might give their opinion which I would take over my own :D

Yours is very healthy - smoothies (especially store-made ones) often have unhealthy stuff in there, to improve taste or to prolong life. Not an issue for you as you clearly don't have working taste buds (spinach??).

Nothing wrong with that smoothie OP, don't know how you can stomach the spinach in it though!!

I would agree with this.. i think the taste has to be off with spinach in it!!

I know you said its for your mental well being rather than physical? Not sure why a smoothie here is better than a simple/conventional breakfast like the above.

Porridge/Weetabix & banana/Scrambled eggs/Omelettes all very simple and you can take multivitamin or something to supplement it? Should it not be a case or having something simple and easy in the morning which would give you more time to relax and put you in that better mental state???

Smoothies with spinach are awesome, you get another of your 5 a day and really only taste the other ingredients. I start my day with a smoothie made with a cup of soy or rice milk, 2 handfuls of spinach, blueberries, a spoon of almond butter, a spoon of the linseed, sesame, goja mix from Aldi and a banana. Tastes great and I've never had so much energy, really notice it if I have something else for breakfast.

Google green monster smoothies - there are thousand of us who add spinach to smoothies.

Yeah i usually will have porridge and fruit or scrambled egg on homemade brown bread. Love that, i done this one morning when i didnt have eggs or milk and was quite alright so i thought id stick to it if it was as healthy as it sounds.

You cant really taste the spinach that much. And its quite quick to make cos you just put everything in the magic bullet and drink from that. My gf thinks im gonna turn into one of those over the top healthy eating obsessive people though. :D

Looks good to me to for what I'd know, but seems there is no protein in it really, spinach is packed with it yes, but how much are you actually adding ?

Does anyone know if doing a big one at the start of the week and fridging it would lose some of the nutrients over the week ?

If you want to improve your mental wellbeing then don't worry about it and eat what ya want within reason ;) if you enjoy that then stick to it because your breakfast looks like a list of superfoods just blended into an individual meal :pac:

I know the one I make begins to separate after a few hours. It is however much higher protein given the milk, almond butter and linseed sesame mix.

Might throw in some peanut or almond butter for the protein, thanks everyone!

    I dislike the words healthy.
There is nothing wrong with any of those ingredients. But avocado, oats, banana, honey all carry plenty of calories. It might not be the best for your actual goals. Adding peanut butter only adds to this. and isn't that much protein.
If was having that many calories, I'd rather have it in a meal.

Ditto here. Everything here is fine. But cals massive. Maybe 800 cals.
Great bulking breakfast. But not what everyone needs.

Great post - saves me from making the exact same point :)

I calculate mine at about 450 - provided I don't overload the almond butter spoon and use the light milk which I do. On a c. 2000 calorie allowance that strikes me as being about right.

It's also great for those of us who have a hard time facing solid food in the morning.

The inclusion of honey in the op stricks me as a no go, given your body treats it as the sugar it is.

Takes me 3 mornings to finish. i'm fat enough as it is.

Doesn't matter...if the OP is counting the cals and staying under...he can include it no problem.
