Don't know if it says it on that link or not, (i cant see it anyway) ?
But do you have to buy tickets or is it a "free in wander about for the day job"?

There'll be a charge at the door but it'll be cheaper than Madonna and you can wander around all day then!

Being charged so that you can be sold stuff! B*llocks to that!

    Imagine if Blanchardstown or Dundrum shopping centres started charging people to enter;

Shop Assistant: "Can I help you?"

Shopper: "No thanks. I'm just looking"

Shop Assistant: "That'll be €12 please!"

It's a show though, I'm sure its more than just being sold things, they'll have performances, talks and I'd there's usually freebies to be had at these sort of events

People pay in to home shows, car shows, wedding shows, etc, but bicycles are different?

I'd imagine there would be nothing on show that I could not walk in and view in wheelworx who would obviously have a big presence.

The running/marathon event is free so why wouldnt this one be? lots of middle aged suckers willing to drop money for the latest technology.

Yeah, they have a big dirty Ticketmaster link on top of the site, 16 quid for a weekend ticket, I suppose it isn't that bad. as a previous poster said, its cheaper than Madonna tickets... Not that I'd know :o

If I was to go to halfords, everything would have a price on it, but some other bike shops its usually a case of asking the price. So at a guess, I'd say there will be a mix.

I think I might go along alright... Worth a look I think... See if I spot anyone wearing a boards jersey... as casual wear... probably not...

Keep an eye out for the LCRC RAAM Team Stand - We are doing a charity spinathon over the 2 days to raise money for Barnardos.

We'll be the 4 guys on the turbos sweating a lot in front of the big map of the USA!

Throw a few quid in the bucket if you see us!

-We'll also be selling raffle tickets for €10 for a bike draw to be held on the Sunday evening -

The floorplan above shows visitor bike parking beside the entrance and if its to scale, it looks like a large bike parking area (as it should be:D).

I understand Fresh Eire Adventures will have a stand; I don't think they were listed above. An Irish company that do cycling tours across the world!

This is kicking off tomorrow in the RDS. Looks like there will be something for everybody. I was in setting up information displays on cycling skills and cycling "infrastructure" for Cyclist.ie.

There's a fair cross section of different bike types. I like town bikes and there's some nice examples of the boutique variety. Looks like there'll be a display of "historic" bikes - I came accross a dead cool Raleigh Chopper circa 1971.

Some nice displays on cycling holidays etc

Yes there is a bike park with a friendly Garda on duty. He's encouraging cyclists to register their bikes. He takes the serial number, make, model and contact details and puts the info on the PULSE database.

    Not great for me:

    Low points:
Got there at 12:30. Not too many people around but a big Queue to get in - there was only one person at the kiosk!
Lots of people pushing various charity cycles - a bit intrusive.
Overall poor value for money - based on the entry fee and what was on offer.

    High points:
Test area for bikes - cycle what's there. There was a pennyfarthing bike (fwd and no freewheel!), Electric bikes, Strida folding bike, Titanium bike with oval chainrings, lots of good stuff to play with.
Demo space. I saw some excellent "urban bikes" displays
Got to try out a Shimano di2 bike on a trainer - the future?

Both Stephen Roche and Sean Kelly had stands promoting their cycling holidays in Majorca. Interestingly, Stephen's company use Vitus bikes and Sean Kelly's don't. Eh?

Went along today and spent over three hours there, I would have stretched that out if i was there with the mates or the missus as we could have had some lunch.

I brought my 5yo daughter so couldn't talk to those on the stands as much as I would have liked. All in all I feel the entry fee was worth it. The little one had a great time and loved the urban bike display which she insisted on seeing a second time, there was also face painting and a test area for her to try out a strider ( bike with no pedals ).

For a first attempt at an Irish Bike show I felt it was a good one, the mentioned urban bike display was worthwhile. The range of exhibitors was fair considering the broad audience. Plenty of stands for the average punter with electric bikes, bike to work informational stands etc. As with Irish shows there was a distinct lack of top Manufacturers there apart from Trek, Kona, KTM and Planet X. Those KTM's look top class. Giant & Felt were surprisingly not there.

Spin and Rotor had a good stand with some top class Titanium bikes and their range of cranksets.

The try out area is good and you can ride anything from an electric bike to a penny farthing. I chose a tandem with a small seat on the back to take my daughter on and she loved it. They could have had a few carbon bikes / more race / tour orientated in there to try out but didn't. You could take a Spin Titanium for a ride.

I managed to snag some great bargains on the McQuaid / DMC Sports / Santini stand with Santini Bib Shorts €20, Spuik Jacket €45, Santini Jerseys €20, Santini Breezewall Gloves €20, Santini Ireland bib tights €20. If you are in the market for club gear there are a fair few manufacturers there with lots of samples some for sale as one offs. There is also a stand selling a huge range of no name glasses at reasonable prices considering the cost of the branded stuff.

The Cycle to Haiti stand have great cycling jackets for sale at €20. I have enough jackets thou.

Stephen Roche was there mingling and looking great, the bike he won the world championship on is also on display. Those holidays are tempting.

I spoke to a few on the stands who tell me they were a little disappointed with the turn out, the matches may account for that. I do hope it's busier tomorrow as it would be good to see the event continuing, it must be hard selling stand space at any event these days especially in Ireland.

To sum up, if you are into cycling ( or getting into it ) and don't feel €15 is too much you should enjoy the event.

The best stand for me was Onix Bike.
Craig was a sound bloke, Really took the time to have a chat. I will seriously consider the Black RH for my next bike. Lovely frame set.

Went today and took the kids. For a first attempt it was really good especially given the current economic times, Fair play for who ever had the vision and drive to make something like this happen.

Would it be worthwhile moving this to the Winter i.e. out of the cycling season? It clashed with An Rás, Mount Leinster Challenge, Betty Darcy Memorial race and other cycling events (not to mention first holy communions and confirmations) so surely lost many potential visitors, me being one.

I reckon having the Ras team presentations at the show on saturday would've been good. Sure there was a good reason why they couldnt do it though.

My oh got me a surprise ticket for sat so went along. I loved it, we spent about 5 hours there, met some good people, tried out the electronic shift system, cycled some bikes which I have never had a chance to before (penny farthing, clown bike, cargo bike, eleptical trainer cyclic kinda thing etc etc) picked up a few bargains and enough bidions to last until next year when I will go again. Bike show was a Laugh and the talks were good.
Fair play and well done to all involved.

Could have been a little cheaper on the door.

Very good showing from MBW bike shop in Galway with the full Kona range, along with Kona management in attendance. Could have made a bit more of that I suppose.

Cyclesuperstore had a good presence, we had a bit of a play with their measuring machine.

Was also nice to see Tallaght Power Coating's work up close!

BMX, Jump and Trials riders were spectacular. A Loop da loop 9 foot above tarmac on a mountain bike is a good trick!

Lots of charities there, considering what a stand costs I reckon they made a loss!

Oh and Mrs Rat insisted on entering every draw in the place.

Oh Yeah! And the guy who makes the wooden road bike frames down in Tipperary.

Was at show myself, Apart from planet stand and about 5 or six more it was of no benefit. Had a load of garmin stuff picked up only to be told by the guy on the stand they weren't retailing. Too many charity stands as well . Wasn't worth €15. Thought Wiggle and Chainreaction cycles might have been there.

Great to have a cycling show but not enough item's on sale. Went with the intension of buying a few bits of gear but very few stands had equipment for sale. I believe it was €150 per sq metre for the stands. A lot of the vendors must of lost a lot of money over the weekend.

So you can find out about stuff you wouldn't normally, test unusual bikes, listen to seminars on various cycling-related topics, and talk to people who know about the products (rather than the occasional shop assistant who's just there to push buttons on the register). I wouldn't be arsed paying €15 to enter some kind of cycling ...superstore. :p

  • Registered Users, Subscribers, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,172 ✭✭✭wanderer 22

Enjoyed this. Got to have a go on the Di2 bike at the Cyclesuperstore stand (not immediately a fan of it, but definitely interesting), got a couple of goody bags with spare tube, tyre levers, puncture repair kit , energy gel and eh, a lollipop..Had a chat with someone at the Sean Kelly cycling holidays stand, seriously tempted..

€15 is a bit steep but my youthful looks paid off and I got a student entry for seven quid ;-)

I didn't go because it would have cost the guts of €50 to bring the family and I got the impression that most of the stands were selling stuff (I don't pay to enter the supermarket either). I have no idea whether it's economical to provide free entry to a show like this, neither do I particularly care.

On a venue-related note, I've avoided going to the RDS in the last year or so because my experience in the few years prior was that everything hosted there was overcrowded, overpriced and disappointing, and access is usually difficult with inadequate parking capacity. It's been rip-off Ireland distilled.

    This isn't a criticism btw, I'm just explaining why I didn't go.

I left on Saturday feeling disappointed

    BUT

the more I talk about it today I realise it was Pretty good
Went with My Wife and Kids and it was nice to have them
see the stuff that drives me to spend the few bob I have

The Girls got a Photo with Stephen Roche , nice bloke , just as sound
as Sean Kelly and believe me Kelly is a sound bloke

Spent almost an hour on the test track with all types of bikes

My next one will be a SPIN titanium , class bikes

A big negative was there were practically no freebies , need to improve on
    this for next year

Will probably go again next year but would like to pay €20 all in. Saturday cost us €31 when you include the car park.

I was training and racing, amongst other things, so I didn't make it down. Only way to improve it for me is to not have it clash with racing season! Or maybe with a race that only takes up a bit of the day - for the Betty D'Arcy I was out of the house from 9.30-3.30. And the last thing I want to do with that precious 90mins before 5pm is be on my feet constantly.

The cost put me off at first, but I'd been convinced in the run-up that it was worth it.

Thanks mahoo. The organisers also very kindly provided us with a prominent stand near the entrance and we managed to raise a good ball of money for Barnardos.

The feedback we were getting was generally positive on the show in general.

For future reference, 8 hour spinathons should be reserved as a punishment for only the most heinous of crimes.

Good luck on the Pedal to Poland and with your fundraising.
