Maybe but its not encouraging when you hear Wally Smith saying that Green wanted him to merge with his consortium but wouldnt give any details about his investors or tangible proof for his business plan. Something is up and I think he's trying to flip the club and I wouldnt rule out abit of propaganda to generate bids. One day its 6m from Smith, the next its £11m from asset strippers. What will it be tomorrow! :pac:

Dermot Desmond to stick a £20m bid in perhaps? :D

I've read it all now. Vote them into the SPL, then relegate them to Div 1?

SPL. SFA. SFL. All of them need to just stop this capitulation and sort this out swiftly and solidly. A new club is a new club and should be treated as such. Forget the few quid that clubs will lose, forget the Sky deal and do the right thing for once.

This whole situation is making a laughing stock out of Scottish Football.

Bury have poured cold water on suggestions they could be bought by Rangers as part of a plan for the Glasgow giants to ply their trade in England. Reports today claim Charles Green’s consortium, who took over the Light Blues last week, have looked into the possibility of acquiring the English League One side.

The plan would then apparently be for newco Rangers to take up Bury’s fixtures for the forthcoming campaign, while continuing to play their home games at Ibrox. Both Rangers and Celtic have expressed an interest in switching south of the border in the past, but such a move would need the approval of the football authorities and has also not gone down well with Gigg Lane chiefs.

Responding to media reports over the last 24 hours, a statement from Bury’s board of directors read: “Whilst investment into Bury Football Club is always welcome, any offer of investment will only be viewed at taking the club forward in its only one guise possible — based in the town of Bury, and as Bury Football Club.

“Bury FC is a proud historical club and, as such, proudly represents the town, community, people and, above all, supporters of Bury. The directors of Bury FC place the integrity and morality of the club, and football as a whole, way above and beyond any possible financial gain and, as such, wish to reassure all Shakers fans of this fact.”

While Bury look forward to opening the season with a home game against Brentford, massive uncertainty continues to surround Rangers. Green will discover on July 4 whether his newco will be granted entry into the Scottish Premier League when the 12 member clubs — including oldco Rangers — meet to vote on the issue. An 8-4 majority is required.

Reports today claim the Scottish Football League could be willing to accept Rangers into the Irn-Bru First Division — rather than the Third Division — in return for a revamp of the league structure that would eventually lead to a merger between the SPL and SFL.

Green and his investors completed the purchase of the business and assets of Rangers last Thursday for £6 million after failure to secure a Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA) in order to exit administration consigned the club to liquidation.

That doesnt make sense, you relegate them to division one and punish whoever got promoted from Div2. Thats as farcical as leaving them in the SPL tbh. Only sending them to Div3 sends out the correct message to everyone.

No it doesn't, it means they decide whether Dunfermline's relegation stands or Dundee move up. The second division team still gets promoted.

Is that in the rules though?

Why should Sevco get a Division 1 place? It shouldnt get preferential treatment. Fairly sure that will be grounds for Livingston to take legal action against the SFA.

They are looking at it as a "get out of a sticky situation" route ... They THINK it'll be enough to appease those of us that want them denied SPL status... But leaves them with a very strong chance of regaining an SPL berth the following season and thus minimising the effect on those bleating about how the financial implication are more important than sporting integrity.
It's a disgrace, and very much looking like the most likely outcome now.
The SPL and SFA don't have a single testicle amongst the lot of them. I'm calling it now that they take this cowards route out.

Sorry mate you misunderstood me, I'm not backing it or saying its in the rules I'm just saying that's what they're trying to do.

We know the SFA etc like to make up rules as they go along.

Motherwell to let fans decide and Hearts announce they will vote against a Rangers NewCo getting into the SPL, I had thought Hearts would have been the most likely yes vote. I guess we won't being seeing The Rangers next season in the top flight.

Unless there's a secret ballot maybe?

By virtue of the fact that the Newco would enter Division 1, they are essentially saying it's a relegation, but with the added benefits of it being a Newco, hence no history meaning no more tax/debt liability.

If it's a relegation, it can't be a different club. If it's not a different club, then surely they keep the history. If they keep the history, then surely they pay every penny they owe - to HMRC, to Ticketus and everyone else they owed money to.

It's just unbelievable that they would even consider this. If this was anyone else bar Celtic, they'd have been chucked from the league a long time ago, and a vote would not even come into it.

So now we have three possible scenarios to muddy the waters even more. I think this is purposely being done to confuse the issue tbh. Will clubs now consider a yes vote is best, as having a heavily sanctioned Rangers in the SPL could be a more severe punishment than a Rangers with no sanctions just one division down?

You can add Celtic, Hibernian, Aberdeen & Dundee United to the list of fans ready to boycott their own club if Rangers arent put down to division 3. The CSA has threatened boycotts of away days on top of that. Havent read much from the other clubs fans, they need to be more vocal in what they want for Scottish Football

Did anyone else hear that The Netherlands are going to be renamed The The Netherlands, and will come back into the Euros at the Semi Final stage, just for the good of the tournament.

Would that mean they're a different country ?

    Surely not... ;)

    http://www.heartsfc.co.uk/articles/20120621/vr-statement_2241384_2818454

Mr Vladimir Romanov today issued the following statement after recent revelations that have had a hugely damaging affect on the game in this country.
Mr Romanov, who has been consistent in his views since investing in Scottish football in 2005, said:

"The opinion of Heart of Midlothian FC in regards to the current situation of Scottish football is clear and robust.

"The football mafia represented by former owners of Rangers FC and Rupert Murdoch's media are to blame for some of the worst problems to hit Scottish football and must not be allowed back in under any circumstances.

"As regards the club itself, we can only express our deepest condolences to its supporters, who have been lied to for so many years.

"It had to happen sooner or later. Victories were achieved not by sporting merits, but through slander, conspiracies amongst players and their poaching via third parties, unfair pressuring of referees, who in themselves are as valuable to the fabric of football as the football stars themselves.

"All of this brought hollow victories and destroyed football. We can also mention the attempts to eliminate Hearts with the help of the tax petitions, through false accusations and threats to revoke the club license. There is a saying about digging a grave for someone: you get it for yourself …

"Without these people football will become cleaner and stronger. Without Murdoch the whole of society will improve, in particular sport and culture.

"Supporters deserve a new beginning and have to accept the fact that their club has to start from the lower league, keeping order in the SPL and without creating unfair competition with other clubs.

"As regards the pitiful state of Scottish football finances, a lot of the blame should be placed at the doors of Murdoch's media. They pay huge sums to English clubs, whilst in Scotland, where football is better supported per capita than anywhere else in Europe and there are more cable or Sky subscribers per capita than in England, clubs receive peanuts for their broadcasting rights.

"At the very least this is discrimination and protectionism for the English football product, which at the same time stunts the development of the game in Scotland, that is regarded as the cradle of football.

"I feel that it is absolutely realistic to create a company that would bring to Scottish clubs at least the same broadcasting income, and even grow it by 50-100% over the next two to three years. This company should be in the hands of Scottish clubs and work with those who want to earn money the honest way, instead of conducting business the Murdoch way.

"They have lived beyond law and all morals, and should now be declared beyond the pale. A society that allows the destruction of integrity in sport, which is a crucial part of Scottish culture, is destroying itself - and all for the benefit of a media aborigine."

His use of english makes him come across as a space cadet but in essence I think he has a point.

Setanta started off paying the SPL £36m over 4 years back in 2004 then mid way through that deal they renegotiated for a deal worth £56m to take the coverage up until 2010. In 2008 they negotiated a deal for 2010-2014 for £125m. As we know that failed because Setanta over extended itself on EPL packages, nothing do with the SPL. Sky/ESPN came in with a £65m deal and now are dangling a £80m deal on that agreement that there will be 4 OF league games a season, basically giving them leverage over Scottish Football if either ever managed to miss a split, never mind what has transpired.

Can Scottish Football ever get a fair deal from Sky? Does offering Scottish Football its actual market value have a conflict of interest for them? Do they actually have Scottish Football best interests at heart or is it all about the profit margins knowing that the SPL cant seem to get out of the corner when it comes to broadcast rights?

I think starting up a football channel specially for Scottish football would be a brilliant idea, the league may be joked about outside of Scotland but I think it would be pretty popular in it.

As for 'sporting integrity', coming from a club who has had 4 winding up orders from HMRC in the last season alone...
    Yeah, well.

    Yeah, well.

At least Hearts paid their debts, where is their Lee Wallace money?

Sevco 5088 need 8 yes votes to take the Rangers share of the SPL or just 5 clubs to vote no or abstain to send Sevco 5088 packing... looking dodgy for them

    I'm just answering your question.

And yes, the chance they will see it is slim to none.

I agree with you again....

An SPL channel would be great. I'd happily ditch my streams and subscribe to an SPL channel. I always wondered why this could not be done before. Sky/ESPN combined is too expensive. Essentially SPL fans are pouring their money into the EPL.

Not if the whole thing is transparent. If it goes like the way Johnston & Shiels from Kilmarnock what it to go then Sevco 5088 might well do it. They need to convince 7 clubs to publically support them. The more clubs who publically say no, the harder it will be for the yes men to keep their stance

Seriously, what way would you expect clubs to vote on this? Romanov always seemed like a nutcase, so not that surprised he'd vote against it.

Can we put Celtic down for a "no" for rivalry reasons? Or more likely a "yes" for financial reasons?

Likely to be no although might abstain and I doubt it will be yes

It looked like the vote would be close last week but I think that is less likely now, I think it will be a No vote but wouldn't rule out some sort of compromise like the one rumoured earlier(A Yes vote but Rangers are punished by relegation to Div 1)

It would be a massive shock if Celtic voted yes, the financial gains in a Yes vote are vastly out-weighted by their supporters action to said vote.

celtic said from the outset that they dont need rangers and nothing has changed in that regard

    Its hardly surprising.

You'll be hard pushed to find a rangers fan who isn't accepting division 3 football.
