    That's true ray but I have a bad back and find it very painful.I know part of this is bad tecnique on my part

    They're not well regarded. There are plenty of other ab exercises you could try, e.g. if you bought that chin up bar, you could do hanging leg raises.

    sit ups are probably the worst exercise for core strength

    In many cases bad backs are caused by tight abdominals & doing crunches only worsens the problem! Alot of the time the back needs to be strengthened & the abdominals stretched/relaxed.

    You should get checked out by a good/reputable musculo-skeletal therapist (physio, osteopath, physical theapist etc.) & checked for imbalances, trigger points etc.

    I have a slendertone and it's quite good. Need to use it in addition to exercise and a good diet though.
