Should have cost €49.90 but cost only €25.

Good value the Valentines dine in always is. Got the Beef Wellington (that's fillet steak in there) plus the other goodies and a very decent bottle of bubbly. Normal retail price was €55.98

    Your point?

    We use euro in Ireland.

About €24, nice to see the gap is closing between UK sterling and the euro. A year ago it would have been £20 Uk and €30 Euro IRL for the same deal.

    £20 / 1.20 (take out 20% UK VAT) = 16.667 * exchange rate of 1.195 = €19.919
    plus Irish VAT of 23% = €24.50

    Pretty damn close ;)

(and I'm not even going to the bother of explaining we have much higher alcohol excise duty here)

We got two last nite . In the store if you spend €35 you get €7 off. Made the deal even sweeter ;)

Things like this always makes me laugh, people think they are getting this great deal but you're clearly not, your spending extra money on stuff you don't need therefore defeating the purpose of bargain hunting in the first place

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 76 ✭✭Nok1a

this is a great deal, availed of it yesterday

    -2 sirloin steaks RRP13,
    -Bottle of wine RRP13,
-Fresh Prawns not sure of RRP,
-Chunky chips not sure of RRP,
-Desert was the triple cholcolate selections again not sure of RRP,
    -Chocolates.

All of this food was of the usual really high M&S standard, and fair enough wouldnt have bothered with the chocolates and wine and didnt eat them but they will always come in handy again so I dont see it as a wasted purchase.

To top it all of the manager handed out a EUR7 off voucher valid once you spend EUR35, so did a bit more shopping and saved more there as well, so my bill came to EUR33 with a savings of over EUR30.

For the people moaning about this, its clear you have no interest in this type of deal but for a lot of people this is a great deal so why dont you save yourself some time and not bother clicking on this tread so then we dont have to read you rubbish talk

Oh, I see, it's only a bargain if you need it. Well OP, I hope you needed that crabmeat in its shell. Certainly sounds like something you couldn't live without!

Plenty of selection in Blackrock at Lunch time :)

What's with all the thread spoiling?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 636 ✭✭✭pug_

Managed to get this for €18. Picked up everything from the deal, got a €7 discount voucher while picking it up, and at the till the cashier said she'd see if it would accept the voucher for this deal, scanned it in and it was accepted :)

€18 for a 3 course meal for two, a box of chocolates and a bottle of wine is good value in my books any day.

Are you saying all you bought was the €25 deal and the €7 discount voucher worked on that?

Yeah because all the Dine in for stuff adds up to over 40+euro individually, so you get the 7euro off with the voucher...

Sorry for not being clear....I was told by a girl when getting the deal, the dine for 2 totals over 40+euro, so when they beep it in and you give your 7euro voucher it ends up being 18euro...You get the discount of it being a dine in for 2 then the 7euro voucher off as well....

Yes that's exactly it, I literally bought nothing other than the meal deal and the voucher was accepted when scanned in bringing the total down to €18.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 118 ✭✭gomara

I got the this yesterday, great deal in my opinion. I bought the deal (€25) + another pie/veg/mash deal for €7 + some other thing for €1.30, Total €33.30. The girl told me if if I bought another thing worth €1.70 bringing the total to €35 I could give me a voucher for €7 off immediately. I got some Mini Jaffas (€1.70) and the total bill was €28!!! How good is that....but you have to actually have items costing €35 to get the €7 discount.

I live in Scotland you still see the tags all displaying the Euro. M&S and Mothercare seem to be much fairer in their pricing. I've noticed the worst offenders for hiking up the prices for Ireland are Debenhams, Monsoon and Accessorise. I bought a dress a couple of years ago for £150 in Monsoon, it was €250 on the label so I wrote and complained that this was completely taking the biscuit. I guess M&S and other companies can say they have to pay their staff a higher minimum wage which is true but some companies would struggle to justify their Euro prices. The M&S Valentines deal is £20 and their dine in deal is normally £10 so the exchange rate isn't too bad if you take into account slighter higher wages and the Irish gov tax on alcohol. Looking forward to the champagne and strawberries :)

Also, there's extra transportation costs involved with bringing the goods across the Irish sea. In fairness, M&S are very fair with their GBP -> EUR exchange rate.

Picked this up for €18 today, genuinely can't go wrong with that. Might pop in again if the missus wants another meal for another night!

I managed to ask a girl stacking milk in blanch for a voucher whilst I was doing my shop - she grabbed one from the checkouts for me.
After paying for my stuff I tried to get another voucher to use tomorrow but was told they were all given out yesterday. I then also asked at customer service and got told the same story. I guess your best bet is to ask a staff member on the floor.

I hadn't a clue about the voucher, the girl at the checkout just included it for me, and I kinda woke up when the till said €18 :)

On a side note, it proves the point that M&S staff are the absolute BEST at what they do. No other shop seems to employ such friendly, intelligent and welcoming staff.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,464 ✭✭✭daveyjoe

Hmmm, I thought the vouchers were for €7 off when you spent €35, not €25?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,122 ✭✭✭✭Jimmy Bottlehead

All the food adds up to nearly €50 separately, so that does the job apparently!

The OH picked up the deal on Monday and bought a few more items. Total came to well over €35, but the checkout assistant never mentioned anything about €7 off :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,023 ✭✭✭Barr

Had the beef wellington Monday nite and the sea bass last nite – both were yummy

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 47 jonnyha

Unusually, mine was horrible. Fishcakes, chips and steak. Chips were dreadful.

    Normally lovely.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 680 ✭✭✭Salmon

Great value deal alright! The sea bass was a little boney, but apart from that it was delish

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,243 ✭✭✭✭Jesus Wept

The real value was yesterday when some of the items that didn't sell were marked down.
Got the chicken/parma ham/cheese main for 2.25 and a veg side for 75c.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,797 ✭✭✭sweetie

I had a voucher left over today and got the chinese meal for two (duck spring rolls, chicken wings, crispy chicken and dipping sauce, battered prawns with sauce plus a bottle of chardonnay) and the chicken and leak pie deal (includes mash and veg) for 16 euros
