Tayto Sandwiches

Anyone ever partake in one of these?

Having one at the moment with ketchup, my favourite childhood snack. Unfortunately, my palate seems to have evolved since then, but still the question remains.... How do you eat your tayto sandwich... and, are there foods or meals that you loved when younger but dislike now?

Ham and smokey bacon tayto sandwich is my personal favourite.

That and a boiled egg chopped up in a mug.

Yeah, but only Cheese & Onion ones with butter. Yum yum.

Couldn't fathom the appeal of ketchup with it.

    In fact, you disgust me.

I used to eat ketchup sandwiches but I fear I have classier tastes now. Eating baked bean with waffles while listening to classical music being one.

Please don't judge me. It tasted fantastic when younger but undecidingly meh now, although i'm eating cheap bread, and i think good bread would make it better. I think if you tried it, it wouldn't be as bad as you thought.

I'll try not to judge you, but the instinct may be just be too strong.

The bread really almost is the most important of a sandwich isn't it. Without it, well, you'd just have a pile of crisps covered in ketchup.

You people who add things like timata sauce and easy singles to the beautiful purity of a soft white bread crisp sandwich make me sick.

That's akin to putting brown sauce on a Michelin star restaurant meal.

    Shame on you.

Just like bacon makes everything better in the food world - lol cats do the same for forum yap.

A quick google image of what you're thinkin often turns up a lol cat with the appropriate message.

There are only two kinds of crisps. Cheese and onion tayto and meanies. Everything else is a deviance which will be first against the wall come the revolution.

My ideal tayto sangidge is tayto, a light layer of mayo, a smather of cream cheese, a couple of sausages fried in olive oil, and a few thinly sliced cherry tomatoes.

I have never heard of a meanie sandwich but I suspect it is an ecumenical matter.

Ah the memories, I used to add a little dollop of salad cream (creme?) to mine

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,593 ✭✭✭theteal

cheese and onion king crisps on lovely fresh soft bread with a generous helping of butter. . . .mmmm, I'm home next weekend and will be making that a priority :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 699 ✭✭✭Table Top Joe

Im partial to the humble crisp sandwich myself every now and then......but when im feeling really fancy i gourmet the **** out of them, fresh white bread(i only eat white bread when its with crisps)thick mature cheddar and branston pickle....or sometimes a crisp dipping sauce(usually chive and onion)

Its an extraordinary sandwich(with either salt and vinegar or cheese and onion, the latter being the classic of course)

Oh yeah you can use cheese spread instead of butter too...this is for the seriously liberal only

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,466 ✭✭✭tim_holsters

I find the popularity of crisp sandwiches mystifying, they are rank.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 699 ✭✭✭Table Top Joe

    Whats not to like? ....seriously

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,281 ✭✭✭donegal_road

fried onion sandwich with Heinz ketchup.. and if you want to go gourmet, carmalize the onions by frying them for 30 minutes on a low heat with half a t-spoon of sugar. Worcester sauce is a nice addition but only add to the pan with onions, and make sure the bread is toasted, or it will go soggy

    You sir are an abomination.

    Freshest light white bread,
    real soft golden butter,
    cheese and onion crisps.
Hot fresh tea just how you like it.

I'd have to go for the simplistic Tayto on white bread (never brown cos that's what barbarians eat) with about an inch thickness of butter on either slice. It truly is the king of sandwiches

I used to have a bit of a thing for salad cream sandwiches as well but it got out of hand. I developed quite the taste for acidic foods and I moved onto ketchup. Before I knew it I was drinking the vinegar out of the jars of beetroot in the cupboard but I got caught

    I'd do it again though

I'm surprised to see no mention of a salt and vinegar tayto and sliced banana sandwich. Surely I'm not the only one???
