Didn't know whether to post this in a thread of it's own or in the Off-topic thread.

In anyway I'm looking for a good city centre (Dublin) pub with good atmosphere to watch the United - Liverpool game tomorrow. The cheaper the pints the better, but mainly it would be the atmosphere I'm after.

    Cheers

Living Rooms 'round the corner from the Savoy cinema is good.
Sinnotts on Stephens Green should be busy too.

Avoid Sinnotts, it's a rugger pub full of jumper on the shoulders, pink shirted, beige chinos D4 ****, and they WILL throw out football fans if they get a bit "rowdy". Expensive pints too.

Living Room is the place to be, loads of screens, cosmopolitan crowd and cheap drink.

Roight, what's wrong with D4

Personally i haven't been in Sinnotts in years but i hear its still ok. Feels very claustrophobic being downstairs there to me personally though.
Living Rooms were charging in for a Classico a couple of months ago ( i guess the Spanish don't drink quite as much as ourselves ;) ).

Woolshed springs to mind too. There are very few decent places to watch matches in town i've always thought.

I've been personally told to leave that place after a football match, along with a few others, some of whom are posters on this forum.

I'll never go back, and I'll tell others to avoid it too.

Anyway, if there is a cover charge on the Living Room door, I'd walk around to Parnell Street and go in via Fibbers.

    @Ivy, lots. :)

Living room is where i go for any matches i watch in the pub, it really is the best, especially for non big games as it has them all on, no matter which team you support really.

indeed, pints are much cheaper in living room, i think its 4.80 there, sinnots is very very very expensive. my main problem though is the rude staff and ignorenent management who for some reason, dont seem to want football fans in there.

youve been asked to leave there twice :) ive been thrown out 3 times. basically, they take all the money they can, all year, once the whistle goes, they dont want you anymore. when the rugby season comes, they dont care about football fans. ive had to watch united v west ham on a tiny screen while wales v scotland beemed all over the place on big screens, to keep about 10 local rugby fans happy.

i used to go there all the time, i put the first few down to just maybe we were roudy, but once it kept happening, we said f8ck that never again going there. we did nothing wrong, its ok for rugby fans to sing the fields of athenry and all that rubbish, but once a football fan opens their mouth, they are asked to leave.

they lost our business cause they are snobs in there, and ive told alot of united fans not to bother going there either.

living room followed by woolshed, though for some reason, the woolshed seems to attract a very nasty bunch of chelsea fans which means we dont go there for chelsea v united games.

thats standard for a pint of beer in dublin.

go to some real rip offs in the city center and its 6euro plus...

If you walk across the beer garden into Fibbers they have a lager for 3.50 I think, it's called Mad Dog.

I've watched a game or two there when visiting friends in Dublin, evening games and on the beer all day before them so plenty of shouting etc and they didn't appear to be any problem.

Biggest problem with Sinnotts is the lack of phone reception otherwise its a nice place imo.

Has the recession not hit these places? Obviously not. They'll only charge what people are willing to pay as the saying goes.

Pubs in Galway finally copped on and have driopped their prices. Wouldn't pay more than €4 a pint now, and Guinness €3.60/3/70.

I was drinking in Sinnotts for the FA cup final last year and no one was asked to leave and the city fans were rowdy and in full voice

Not if your trying to be following other results you have bets on during the day or doing more online bets in the afternoon or at night if your following bets on the pga tour like I usually am. Unless their is wifi of course, then its not a problem.

There's a pub in Limerick that does 3euro a pint until the first goal is scored.

I think they call it ''goalrush''

+1 for the Living Room. Found it by accident last year when looking for the United City game last year when Rooneys wondergoal won the game 2-1.

Gigantic 3-D screen, great atmosphere, lovely food, nice pints.

3d....arrghhhhhhhhhhhhhh. the biggesst joke concept ever to hit football media.

i cant believe people buy into it.

Surprised that hasn't been mentioned, always go there if in town.

The Living Room was fine, but the ****ing 3D thing pisses me off something fierce. Woolshed is pretty good I find.

On the South Side, the only places that I find reliable to even have the match on are Sinnotts, O'Neills and the Porterhouse on Nassau Street (good food in the last two aswell). Never really going to get great atmosphere, and in Sinnotts, rugby comes first. Normally pretty good for CL matches though if time is tight.

Woolshed or Living Room for me.

Sinnott's is gone to the dogs for past few years. Used to go there, but would stay well away now

If there is a cover charge, its usually €5 and they give you a €5 drink voucher for it. It's to weed out the quite high number of people who go in there and watch the match without buying a drink (a big problem in the living room (for them))

Not every screen is, or ever has been, 3D. In fact, the vast, vast majority of them aren't, I only recall one side room with a 3D screen in it.

Everything around the main bar area is normal TV, the beer garden is normal TV...

    Oh yeah, "barstoolers lol".

There can be a pretty decent atmosphere in a pub for football.

Nothing at all like going to a match live, of course.

It's different, but there's still an atmosphere.

Once you aren't fooling yourself into thinking it's anything like actually being at a match, then it's all good.

No, but why mention it in here as it's been done to death on SF.

Bit old at this stage in fairness.

Maybe I've been going to the wrong pubs so, because I've never experienced it. The only time I've ever found watching football in a pub in any way exciting (outside of the style of football itself) has been when Ireland were in a major competition or on the verge of making one.

As opposed to the Man United/Liverpool and Celtic/Rangers bickerfests that dominate every 2nd thread on this forum? They're majorly fresh yeah?

I agree with what you say. Going to LOI or PL games, or even SPL games for me are the way to go, but not everybody can afford or be lucky enough to go to every game.

Because you don't support the teams playing probably.

But still, the Champions League final that Liverpool drew with Milan, I was in one of my local pubs for that, there was a pretty decent atmosphere.

Also, the WC Final 2010 in the Living Room had a pretty decent atmosphere, crowds and crowds of Spanish and Dutch was awesome really.

but that's international football, which seems to be different for you.

Their main screen is a 200" 3d screen now, it's awesome, was in there playing fifa on it the other day. Theres loads of non 3d screens as well though, including the screen directly next to it.

Usually head Woolshed myself if I'm arsed going to the pub for a match, decent food and beer isn't dear. Haven't been any of the other places for a game though so can't compare.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

do they dole out the specs like on the way into the cinema? do you have to pay a deposit?

i just want to send one of the lads in to take a pic of everybody trying to look like woody allen in a variety of soccer jerseys :D
