I got one from the uk and it took so long I contacted them and they sent another one but the original arrived at the same time so now I have two. The person who give the best reason for wanting it gets it free off course. Its a Accu measure 3000.

Barry.Oglesby wants it because his dog ate his* **
He would reply himself but he's currently being tied in knots by an extremely good Brazilian black belt who's absolutely ripped to shreds*

*both of these are actually true, believe it or not
**the dog also ate a medicine ball, and an MMA glove

John that is not the best reason I have ever heard. I will leave it until tomorrow evening to decide. That sounds like some dog this reason is at the top for the moment :D

I need one to measure my bodyfat. Obviously.

Its virtually impossible for be to get testhere for a reasonable price.
Last I check. One PT would do it when I bought a set of 3 sessions for $150. Or one of Poliquin BioSignature zealots would include it with a hormone test for $120.

Best deal was a DEXA scan for $80.

    I can't keep paying this.

I'd love it. But how do we know you're not just trying to hunt us down and kill us? :P
I've wanted to measure my body fat for a while now. I've gotten bigger over the last year but only gone up about 6lbs in weight:mad:
But I can see the definition of abdominals showing so I guess it's nearing 10%

Dexa is the most accurate and comes in at the cheapest price in your example so id go with that!!

Those accu measure calipers are as accurate at measuring BF% as chop sticks!!!

the accuracy of calipers really depends on the person doing it, if they are good they will be able to be quite accurate, measuring the exact same site each time to get a very good measure of progress

    Truth.

I care a lot more about tracking the change in mm readings over time - given the same calipers and the same operator it's a pretty good indicator of fat loss. Even if it's not gonna give an actual accurate BF%.

    Yup.

I think I remember reading that the standard deviation on caliper tests was anything up to about 5% depending on who is taking them. So you might get one guy who is either 10% or 15% depending. I do about 4 tests a month so you'd have to think my deviation is in the higher bracket since I'm not doing them every single day. In IP we used to do an 8 site test, but I do a 4 point one now because it's just as accurate and if I'm honest, I don't really care about the accuracy of the %. I just want to see the mm dropping and the relative changes in the mirror for my clients. Also, most, and I mean the vast majority, of clients of any PT or coach don't need an accurate BF test, the scales and mirror tell them everything they need to know!

The dog story is true by the way. I've been out of the house a bit more often so my 8 month old Dalmatian is acting out and eating stuff with my scent on it. He took the calipers from out of my bag and gave them a gnash, a spare MMA glove, and then, in a surprise move, chewed his way through a rubber medicine ball.

So if you want to stick them in an envelope that would be grand, but they're only €20 or so and I can get them online so no bother if not!

I reckon banks is referring to the pressure you can put on the skinfold. The 'clicky' tends to wear down on the accumeasure ones. I've access to, and have used harpenden calipers which regulate pressure themselves.

I'm with Barry though on his reply, I do exactly the same and for the same reasons, reverting to the accumeasure. I'm quicker with those too.

@mellor, why not just pick up a set of the accumeasure ones and either use them on yourself or teach someone how to do it? It mightn't be as accurate as a dexa but certainly an option. Just use a simple 4 site test like Barry does?

If you send them to me I won't have to estimate my bf% by counting abs anymore!

Oh I agree about tracking the mm reading over time and not just the %, but I still think the accu measure is dodgy, 1) it can wear down easy 2) the point at which the accumeasure clicks in can vary on the same site even with the same tester.

If you want an accurate BF% get a dexa, if you want a there or there abouts number then use a accumeasure

I think I might. Dexa is great for accuracy, but it just isn't feasible for an ongoing check.
