Water & rehydration & dehydration

    Hi,

    I'm 6'2", 100 kg's and in decent shape.

I exercise 5/6 times a week varying between cardio+weights and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and boxing, so there's a bit of variety in the type of exercise I do.

I drink a lot of water, during training I will drink between 1.5 and 2 litres, I don't sweat a huge amount but I do get thirsty and I do feel that it helps to drink this amount of water.

I feel that I don't drink water in small amounts, ie: sipping a 2 litre bottle over a longer period of time. I generally get thirsty, drink a pint, an hour or two later do the same. I generally gauge my hydration level based on how I feel and the colour of my urine.

My typical diet is as follows:

Wake up: protein shake with some carbs + fat such as a bagel with peanut butter or a yogurt with fruit or some eggs + a bagel (wholewheat in all cases)

Lunch: similar enough to breakfast minus the fat, so usually one or two chicken fillets (depending on how hungry I am) or a protein shake if I don't have chicken/meat with me and some soup or salad.

Dinner:Two chicken fillets or a steak or steak mince burgers with broccoli and fennel, olive oil and balsamic vinegar, and if I'm hungry some brown rice or wholewheat pasta, I usually skip the rice or pasta as I feel the vegetables and meat does the job.

Post workout: protein shake and then a meal (similar to dinner).

Bed time: creatine/glutamine/beta-alanine supplement (BSN CellMass) and if I'm hungry a protein shake.

I'm fairly in tune with how my body feels and I don't like to eat unless I feel I need something. I usually eat some fruit during the day also (apples most of the time) and the other supplements I take are milk thistle, centrum advance, Tribulus and vitamin C.

What I'm wondering is am I drinking too much water (if I drank it in small regular intervals would I be better off). This isn't always convenient as I can carry a bottle with me but getting water when I'm in college takes ten minutes due to the lectures being far away from drinking water taps, time I don't have between lectures).

I consume anywhere from 5 to 8 litres a day. I drink 1 to two cups of strong coffee a day.

A pint of water n oen go every hour or two is fine. There's no need to keep sipping on the stuff (this applies to people who are severely dehydrated, not day to day consumption)
5+ litres is alot, but you are a big lad and active so you are getting through it.
