Awesome system let down by an external rad :(.
The internal rad would be enough for that system or you could have always put a thick 240mm in the bottom to keep it cool instead.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,521 ✭✭✭Joseph

I don't mind the external rad to be honest, it's mounted well and from normal viewing angles you can't really see it or the wiring

I'm extremely jealous. I'm hoping at some point I'll have the funds to do something outrageously cool like this, but it's probably not going to be for a while.

Congrats on what is an amazingly cool rig. :)

O.O That's a lot of stuff. Nice job.
Did you really need two arctic silvers?

I'm also wondering why you went with the Intel 970. Was there a good deal going with it or was it for compatibility?

Cheers thanks alot, added up to quite a bit but the way I figure it is it's an entertainment and work system that will pay for itself many times over, over a 3 year period when I'll get a new system

I actually got a 980 forgot to adjust that in the specs. The reason I got the 980 was in August when I was buying it it had dropped to a really great price

I do a good bit of PC work so it's always handy to have extra thermal compound around :)

God help me when I get a job, I'll probably end up spending every cent I get on a PC like this.
What was the total price for all that, if you don't mind me asking :)

Great Job! Should help inspire me to build my own PC, any advice on brands to avoid for computer parts or is one as good as the other?

Great build mate. Quite some budget you had there right enough. What do you intend to do with it? Gaming?

Ive got a single GTX580, Im in two minds on whether to buy another for SLI, or, just wait and get a 7000 series ATI, or even wait for the new Nvidia cards which will be out soon. The price of the 580 hasnt really dropped yet, despite its age now.

Well I do alot of work on the computer, aswell as some gaming and for general entertainment so it'll get it's moneys-worth. I wanted to build something that would satisfy me for 2-3 years. Also I wanted to upgrade my project from my last build (watercooling, overclocking, custom modifications etc). So that's sort of how I've been able to justify the price tag to myself : p

If you get a chance, you should post a video up, showing it booting up. Im a geek that way!

In a couple of the photos, you have the room lights out and you can clearly see blue lighting behind the monitors. Are they blue lights, or do you have amBX installed?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,181 ✭✭✭Serephucus

He's got lights taped to the back of the monitors, you can see it on the picture showing the wall-mounted top monitor.

    Will do a video :)

Those are LED light sticks from ikea, they're fantastic, you can change the color to whatever you want. They're only 30 euro, when I bought them they cost me 80 :(

Hayden adds bonus points to anything :D

Small bit offtopic, but why would you need second one? I got gtx 570 and I wanted one more, but after having some thought in it I decided not to. It runs everything now and it won't be too extreme jump from ati 7 ( 7 series are lovely and powerfull :D ). I will upgrade when I will hit the wall with current gpu. Which will be only awile from now. Grx580 is even better. It runs everything, so why waste money to add more power if you won't even use it out. The only game that will benefit: bf3, but even bf3 runs like a boss on single 580. ( unless you go multy monitor setup ). Wait for next gen. Upgrading each gen is good, but these days jumping over a generation or two is really possible with not much of perfoamce loss.

The problem is that its BF3 that I play. Over 250 hours so far! :D

At the moment I have 2 Dell 27" U2711 monitors, they run at 2560 x 1440. Even with just one monitor on, if I play BF3 at that res, then with settings at ultra, Im only getting between 30-40fps. I think the problem is due to the fact my GTX580 only has 1.5GB of RAM, from things Ive read, it seems maybe with such high resolutions, that the 3GB card wouldve been better. I will buy another U2711 so that I have three monitors and I can surround game with them. Probably not in BF3 because that wont help me play better, but for iracing and other driving sims.

Ive been playing with everything at ultra at 1080p and it plays great, but the annoying thing with Nvidia cards, which I didnt know at the time, is that you must be in SLI to use surround gaming, whereas you only need one ATI card that runs eyefinity.
