Was just wondering has anyone ever tried an energy drink diet? I was thinking of having a red bull or other energy drink every time I feel like junk food and have just lunch and dinner and a 20min or half hour work out every day. I'm new to this diet thing so apologies in advance if this idea is stupid/dangerous it's just I have heard these things really work.

    this idea is stupid/dangerous

    :)

Far far far away from healthy! You don't need any fancy diet, just eat well and exercise. Ask here for advice on both if you're unsure.

What are you suggesting a red bull diet achieves?
red bul has energy from the sugar, so its just another form of junk food really.
    Eat real food

Ah to be honest I just looking for an easy way to lose weight ( if there is any ) and thought this might work. Im a 20 year old lad and a bit lazy so wanted something that doesn't require to much effort. My friend did it and holy **** he is a skeleton now after doing it so I suppose it is kind of unhealthy.

Don't think Mellor was being smart, just to the point :)

If you want to lose weight, you just need to burn more calories than you're taking in but you'll want to be smart in this and make sure you're getting enough nutrients in what you're eating to maintain proper health.

First find viable substitutes for what you like to eat, there's healthier alternatives to almost anything, then try cut down on the bits that aren't so good, step by step, don't go all at it at once as you'll have cravings and everything to overcome first. Good luck

    smartarsed?
Nothing I said was smartarsed. It was completely serious about all of that.
It's just sugar and water. no better than other junk foods.

The problem with most peopels diets isn't the small bits of junk they snack on its the main meals aren't great, normally bad choice or two many calories simply due to size.

I must admit I'm in my final semester of college so caffine is my vice right now and people will try and tell you to cut it out but if its such a crutch cut down on it at first, I cannot describe the amount of energy getting rid of simple carbs, eating more nutritional food and having something small to eat every few hours has given me but hey thats only what has worked for me.

And of course the no breakfast thing will slow you down, I know last week I didn't bother with breakfast and I lost nothing for the first week in a long time.
Oh and the diet stuff still spikes your blood sugar so a little sparingly is doable but not everyday, it shouldn't be called diet, I saw a "diet" section in lidl and everything was just aspartame food bleugh

Surely you're not new to common sense?! Seriously, how could this ever be good for you?

Anyway, there's a sticky about measuring your RMR (resting metabolic rate) -- start there. There's also a great list of good foods to eat linked in that thread. Then divy up what you need on a daily basis as regards carbs, protein and fat...tons of good info on here.

    Best of luck.

All these drinks are poison laced with sugar and sometimes worse stuff. If you think about it we shouldn't really be snacking, but whats happening is because of the processed diets most people eat our blood sugar levels spike then plummet. Most of the food cravings we have is the brain's response to the bodies demand for sugary, salty or greasy snack foods and this demand is believed to the same response a drug addicts exhibits when anticipating the next hit.

This sounds a bit like the beer diet I read about not long ago. The plan is simple, skip one meal a day and have a beer instead. The idea being your average meal is about 500kcals. A beer is about 200, so thats a saving of 300kcals.

The one rather obvious problem is when did you ever sit down and drink only one beer? If I regularly only had one beer, I probably wouldn't need to be on the diet in the first place.

I suspect a similar problem with the red bull diet. After having your 250 mls of Red Bull, you would not feel fulfilled, and so would be tempted to have another, as well as the sugar spike from 2 red bulls, you would also get dehydrated. Then you crash, are hungry but ironicaly have no energy and end up ringing Dominos for a belly buster and to quench your thirst a litre of coke.

Day one of diet, Calorie target 2200, Calories consumed 3700.

OP, I recommend starting a food diary, stick it up here and let people suggest healthy alternatives. There might be just one or two things you need to change to prevent any serious gain, and allow you to strike a balance.
