    Arguably the biggest day of the year for Junior and Intermediate clubs takes place next weekend in Croke Park with the All Ireland Junior and Intermediate finals down for decision. I've always enjoyed club games and I think it's only right and deserving that these clubs get their day out in Croke Park. Games and times are as follows;

    Saturday February 11th

Junior Hurling Final; Charleville (Cork) v St Patricks Ballyragget (Kilkenny) 5 30pm.

Intermediate Hurling Final; Middletown Na Fianna (Armagh) v Mount Leinster Rangers (Carlow) 7 15pm.

    Sunday February 12th

Junior Football Final; Derrytresk (Tyrone) v Naomh Padraig Clonbur (Galway) 2 00pm.

Intermediate Football Final; Davitts (Mayo) v Milltown-Castlemaine (Kerry) 3 45pm.

Fair play to BBC 1 Northern Ireland who did a report on Middletown Na Fianna in their 6 30 Newsline show tonight. They showed the colour and atmosphere around the town and did interviews with club officials and players. Good to see this club deservedly get some TV coverage in recognition for reaching the All Ireland final.

best of luck to clonbur, have a few close friends from that village and would be nice to see them get one over on derrytresk.

i think they will, they are a decent team and really are miles above the junior rank in Galway. they have a good mixture of young and old, a few ex galway underage players.

Whereabouts in the county is Clonbur?

Best of luck to Charleville in the junior hurling final. Will be a tough game against Ballyragget. Very hard to call.

Ha ha! I was guessing it was up that direction. I'm sure I drove past it many years ago when I was touring around the West coast. A small village it was if my memory serves me right.

Clonbur is in north Connemara in between Lough Corrib and Lough Mask. Right on the Galway/Mayo border. Beautiful part of the country up there. Ashford Castle is only a short hop down the road.

What kind are Clonbur? Have they been a junior club for a long time? How have Galway clubs fared in these comps in the past? sorry for all the questions!

Clonbur would probably usually be an intermediate club in Galway but like a lot of small rural clubs they have lost a lot of lads to emigration so ended up in junior but have gone back up again fairly quickly.

As for Galway clubs in the junior and intermediate All-Irelands. Loughrea reached the junior final in 2006 but lost to Ardfert from Kerry. Loughrea would be a hurling stronghold though. They just play a bit of football to keep fit for hurling.

In the intermediate championship Moycullen won it in 2008 while Caherlistrane lost the final in 2006, St Michaels lost in 2009 and St James lost in the final last year.

Davitts is a border club too, always great banter around Connacht Championship time as Ballindine/Irishtown are also on Mayo/Galway border. Great day for Connacht football on Sunday.

Clonbur is a great little village and I cannot wait for Sunday to see them play in Croke Park. The lads deserve to win.

They're on the fringes of Conemara, North Galway about 10 mins from Cong. The club itself is made up of players from a few different parishes as they're all very small villages.

Well tomorrow is Charleville's day of reckoning. There was a great preview of Charleville's game done on local newspaper The Vale Star with player profiles,a review of all their wins and their route to the All Ireland final and a profile of their opponents St Patricks Ballyragget from Kilkenny. Best of luck to Charleville tomorrow,I hope they keep that trophy in the rebel county!

Also best of luck to Kerry side Milltown-Castlemaine in the Intermediate final. They beat my home team in the Munster semi final and are coached by a man from my own division John Fintan Daly who has also coached Cork to Under 21 All Ireland football success in the past. They have had some tough battles to reach the final where they face Mayo club Davitts who are highly rated in the Connacht province.

This what it is all about for the eclub player who gives so much to their team and parish through thick and thin. It must be just wonderful for these lads and their families to get to play in Croke Park in an All-Ireland final. Hope every player has a memorable day.

Fográ Can someone arrange a match ticket and straight jacket for our poster Mervyn:rolleyes:
There is a possibility he could actually learn something. Possability that is!!

Junior Final result; St Patricks Ballyragget 1-13 Charleville 1-12. Listened to the game on local radio and it was a cracker of a game with a great standard of hurling and not a dirty stroke pulled during the game. Congratulations to Ballyragget and well done too to Charleville for contributing to a great final and they can be proud of their great achievements the past 12 months.

Ah, Brilliant stuff. MLR have beaten Middletown 1-13 to 1-11. MLR played with 14 since the 25th minutes. I reckon the pub licencing laws are out the window in Borris tonight. :D

A big boost for Carlow hurling.

Well done MLR - Denis Murphy as free-taker played a blinder.

E Byrne at full-forward should get Man of the Match - had a goal dissallowed for a palm , but he was dangerous throughout.

James Hickey at midfield was a real warrior too

Up next Davitts v Milltown-Castlemaine. Maybe it'll be a Connacht double today in Croker or the Kerry lads will spoil the plot?

miltown are very strong, would have 8 or 9 lads involved in this years kerry senior final and alot of underage kerry pedigree in the team.

i know nothing about davitts of course, they could be the best team in ireland for all i know!

best of luck to both teams, may the best one win.

My local club were beat by Milltown-Castlemaine in the Munster semi final. They are a very determined outfit and play as a unit together and are hard to break down. They have a great coach in John Fintan Daly.

Gutted for Derrytresk, the unfair, double standard punishment handed out to them by the GAA and the blackening of their name by the southern media has been sickening considering it was actually Dromid who started the fight. It doesn't take much for the anti-six county bias to raise its ugly head.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,346 ✭✭✭✭homerjay2005

8 points in it now, milltown look on their way to the title unless a late late fightback from the mayo lads....a few mins left.

so starting a fight is an excuse for what happened? one man hitting a lad is an excuse for 10 more joining in and jumping a fence? another player getting his jaw dislocated? a county player singled out for special treatment all game? 3 dromid players having their balls grabbed before the game?

why would you be gutted for a club who acted like thugs? they got what they deserved - nothing.

congrats to clonbur and milltown - the 2 best clubs in their grade this year.

to be honest id say tis yourself that believes in santa claus considering you believe derrytresk are innocent.

i believe people who were at the match, who i have since talked to. il take their word for it and also, that of the gaa who banned 7 players after reviewing the footage that was there for us all to see.

anyway, great nights ahead for clonbur, was talking to a few of them earlier and they said its the best thing ever to happen their place in a lifetime.

    delighted for them.

Dromid were the ones who proved themselves to be both thugs and whingers. They started it, they had the third man in, they particpated in it equally, they whinged, they lost, like every Kerry team at every grade in every match of any consequence since 1991 has done to Tyrone teams. No surprise to see Declan O'Sullivan get booked last night a mere three minutes after coming on by the way.

The GAA to their shame bought wholesale the 26 county media's anti-northern witchhunt. The northern team gets piunished, the southern team gets off scot free. Liveline is obviously more important than actual evidence.

    Congratulations to Clonbur.

Ya you might want to get your facts right there as Kerry have beat at minor at that time. Strage that you pick 1991 to start from remind me who won the 1990 All Ireland Under 21 title? And who di they beat in the final?

The onw where the Tyrone players were on trying to make out they did nothing wrong?

Congratulations to Clonbur, they won the title and this way was even better, I myself would have awarded it to them by dumping Derrytresk out of the competition. There must have been well watched and not allowed to get away with their typical Tyrone dirty play and antics.

Fair play to Clonbur, a grand team and I would expect nothing less from a Galway team, some of the grandest players and nicest bunch of supporters I have ever encountered have been Galway teams. Nice people and a nice attitude, gracious in victory and defeat.

As for Tyrone well, this incident is over and Derrytresk got their well deserved comeuppance, it was a sad chapter of the GAA's history and sadly reflects badly on Tyrone whom we have now learned to expect nothing less from a county which sends teams out not to play football but rather assault and injure where possible.

Were Derry tresk not given the opperyunity to reply?

Cant agree about this anti -northern media. Im sick or reading articles about the great work being done up north (and great work it is) but too often we are hearing about the violent scenes at games in Ulster and this does stay in peoples mind.

Look at the marvellous work being done in Antrim as was seen on T.V north and south and a few week later we have a whole club thrown out. Tyrone come to Croke Park put in a mighty effort to win Sam and then we head about the McGuigans and the treatment they get in club football. Peter Canavan got his fair share over the years and its still going on in Tyrone with I believe an incident at Senior Championship this year and disgraceful scenes at Ladies match. So to blame southern media is a little silly to say the least.

When it happens in Dublin club games as it did a while ago it got well covered on Media and rightly so and if memory serves me one of the clubs, if not both went on liveline. I cant speak for any other county.

But whatever about 2 lads going toe to toe which I dont have a huge problem with as its a contact sport and some lads might react but when someone comes accross a fence in this case a few came accross they have no business being at any sports event.

Another disgraceful post from you but then again I'm not surprised with some of the tripe you post on this forum. You've cast a slur on Tyrone GAA based on the incidents involving Derrytresk. I know plenty of Kerry GAA fans but I'd regard you as a bigot who the GAA can do without your support.

To be honest Im delighted with the football results today.

Mtwn/Cmain came out with a surprise victory, after a super performance.

Also happy for Clonbur, as I believe Derrytresk shouldn't have been allowed contest the Final. Their attempt in the last week to play the victim card has really put to bed any trace of sympathy I had for them. They tried to shift the blame, and Ignore the conduct of their players and fans.

Its all well and good to be a small parish working hard and going for an All Ireland, but when the "Win at All Cost" mentality comes into it, and you go outside the rules of the game, then you don't deserve to win.
