Noticed something just there, people might not give a fcuk but the disparency between Man Utd/Liverpool fans and everyone else is just massive.

The numbers as at 18.43, practically 24 hrs after each game from last night

    Numbers:

    Everton v City = 27 posts, 937 views

    Liverpool v Wolves = 392 posts, 12372 views

    Man Utd v Stoke = 243 posts, 8267 views

Wha? The only game live on tv was Everton v City and that game incl the league leaders. Just found the numbers interesting.

    it shouldnt be surprising

more people follow the most successful clubs from when they were growing up/that their parents followed

The vibe of the forum and every transfer or rumour or anything is viewed generally on its impact to those two clubs. Europa League threads will be suddenly big things on Thursday nights/Friday mornings.

The FA Cup threads could now struggle though.

I notice this as well. A Chelsea player in an extremely evident racial row: interest for about a week ish. A liverpool player involved in a his word against mine racial row..... If it wasn't closed it would hit the million Mark before the let's count to a million thread.

I suppose it's clear who are the sheep and who aren't

I also find that a lot of people who follow some teams aren't actual football fans. Rather just fans of a club rather than the sport as a whole. You notice a lot when there's live games on between teams who aren't in the top 4.

The vast majority of the threads on the "soccer" forum dont concern me as I havent a clue what people are talking about as I never watch english football except in the CL ( and then only the best matchs should be should be shown). Because of this I dont read them and just stick to general stuff or LOI threads which tend to be ruined by people with no interest in the topic.

When that happens I tend to go away for a period and come back later hoping things have changed. This repeats....................... A la RTE

Or a lot of them might just have a limited amount of time to devote to watching football and use that time when the team they support are playing.

Similar to each teams home stadiums the majority of times really!

    Ethiad=Not sold out!

    Anfield=Sold Out!

    Old Trafford=Sold Out!

It was a tongue in cheek comment that you are taking too seriously just cause you support City! That said you can't argue that there has been plenty of games in the Ethiad this season where the empty seats have been very noticeable!

I was prepared for this ;)

    http://mcfc.co.uk/News/Tickets-and-Travel/2012/Fulham-game-is-sold-out
With every home league game selling out so far this season,

Sure, some cup games have had blue seats on show but there's been general sales across the city at OT as well so, if anything, it's nowhere near representative of the forum where United fans outweigh by at least 20 to 1.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,174 ✭✭✭✭kmart6

They also claimed the United FA Cup game was sold out...but there was a visible amount of empty seat! Don't think that can be put down to season ticket holders who weren't there!

This is awfully OT! But yeah there were gaps, must be down to all those horrible corporates who only have a passing interest in us and just use their tickets for big games ;)

Anyway, the reason there was no activity for the Everton game is because no thread was created until the second half, and when it was it was just people lolling and revelling in the City loss. Fucked if I'm posting in that, and I'm sure the others thought the same.

If you look at the superthread, that's where all five of us were hanging out ;)

you also have to take into account the number of posters that support a lessor team coming into match threads to try and wind up other fans

you will find depending on the result that there is either an explosion of them or none of them

kinda like someone who has a username thats an anagram of erbba and munnywill

I think the number crunching is coming down to 'fans' like yourself. Do you really think you seem clever repeating a 'fact' that was tongue in cheek 18 months ago?

Why on earth would I be on the match thread when I am watching the game? It is very clear that the majority of those in the thread are not watching the game as there are several requests for streams.

I would think the numbers reflect adequatley the moron following that each club have, rather than any real indication towards the actual fans who are at/watching the game live.

To be fair, that's all city fans have been able to do prior to the last couple of years. It's like a political party that's been in opposition for years not knowing what to do when they're in power.

More people post in the Utd and Liverpool threads because they have more Irish supporters. It's fairly simple.

Most people want to discuss tactics, transfers etc. with like minded people and thats why the "lesser" teams threads don't get as much banter in them.

They should though. I don't agree with the notion that superthreads are just for fans of that club. Alot of people are afraid of posting in there because they will be branded a troll by posting "unpopular" opinions. Interesting stuff happens in most matches so people should be using the other threads too.

Some people just enjoy football. I don't "support" any team in the premier league specifically and generally route for the team with the most Irish lads on show or the team who plays the best football. Or even just for the team that has a player I like on it.

You don't have to be super tribalistic to enjoy the game. I watch every game every week because I like it. If none of the other teams you don't care about existed.....neither would your team. And then what would you watch?

In a certain thread the other day a new-ish poster posited an opinion that the manager of that club may not be getting funds from the owners because they may not be the manager next season, and that the owners may be keeping their money for the Summer when a new manager comes in.

He was pounced on, and within three posts was branded a troll by some of the more regular posters.

That very same opinion, that the manager may be a planned short term appointment brought in to steady a ship, and may not be the manager for next season, had been posted not two weeks ago by a fairly prominent poster in that thread and he'd received many "thanks" for his posts on the subject and other posters actually in agreement with him.

If it wasn't so sad I'd be laughing, but it's fairly exasperating.

And then the real trolls are allowed to troll the match threads to their hearts content with nothing done to remove them.

There is a fairly bad vibe about the place, and the people who can do something more then most about it just don't.

Posting in 'other clubs' threads can be a minefield.I posted a couple of things in the Liverpool one a week or so ago and got a ban for my troubles. One post was pretty funny & got a few thanks but then the usual tribal knuckledragging reared it's head.Another post summed up how rubbish the signings of Carroll,Downing and Henderson were and lo & behold..post reported.
These are the same posters who have moaned about these 3 players but when an opposing teams fan states the same it's a ban.In the pub or anywhere else I could have done the same with Liverpool fans and many would have agreed with me but online it's a different story.

    It seems a different opinion=trolling............

But whats wanted on this forum and whats acceptable?

Is it "the banter" commonly had especially between Irish Manchester United and Liverpool fans sometimes when one of the teams aren't playing

Followed by one or few sensitive replies to "the banter"

Followed by "All fans of team X are over sensitive, can't take the flack" comments

Followed by "well you supporter of team Y weren't so full of joy when team X bet team Y last season" "I'm sick of team X fans mouthing on about bla bla bla"

    Followed by a few pics

Followed by a LOI fan "you should support your own bunch of barst*****s"

Followed by a few more jpegs

    Followed by more sensitive replies

Followed by a definition of banter and explanations on how to lighten up

Followed by more jpegs and gifs

Followed by a few yellows and reds

etc etc etc til eventually threads get locked and someone comments about how much the level posting has gone down hill in another thread.

Is all of the above wanted?

Here you go http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=76668744&postcount=1046 If you scan the previous few pages you'll see how both it & the gif I posted fitted into the context of the debate (albiet in a slightly humorous way, which I did state in another post)

Thing is though,if you post what you actually feel then you're in trouble.Loads of my mates are Liverpool fans and even though things can get heated over a few pints we don't cry about it or refuse to talk to each other.
Trilla alluded to the fact that posts have to be sensitive or they are jumped on.Some here read one post, take it completely out of context and lose the plot or have zero sense of humour and see everything as an attack on 'their' club.

No,I generally don't post there due to a few, lets call them 'oversensitive' souls.I made one more post after that which I think you replied to regarding Dalglish getting sacked if the poor form had gotten worse.
You took it for what it was,a genuine question. It was the gif & pic which seemed to rile people even though they actually summed up the situation at Liverpool at that time.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 18,520 Mod ✭✭✭✭DM_7

I mainly post here to talk about the club I support with other fans of the club. I wouldn't have much activity across the forum.

If I have something negative to say about another team I normally keep it to myself as it will basically come across as trolling. If I saw a post where people were looking for opinion from opposition fans I would comment alright, otherwise I say nothing.

Re the match threads as mentioned in the OP - If I am watching a game on TV I won't go online to comment about it if it doesn't involve the team I support. That I imagine is similar for a lot of people and would explain the low number of posts in threads featuring clubs with less supporters.

It was actually a genuine mistake, as I recall, but in fairness, some people didn't believe me.

    See, that's the thing.

I post my genuine opinions, and some people are a bit sensitive and take them as trolling, they really aren't.

I do the same in the united Thread, and in the LoI threads (I hate Rovers, Pats, Bohs, Cork Foras and when they around Fingal and CHF more than I even slightly dislike any EPL club(s)), but I never get called a troll in the United thread, or in the LoI threads (well, the Torpedo fans used to call me a troll, there never were CHF fans here, I don't think)
