Canola Oil & Paleo Diet

I have started getting more serious with the Paleo diet recently. I have been reading Cordains Paleo Diet for Athleats where he advocates Canola Oil for cooking I am not sure about this- Canola is rape seed oil industrially produced- how does this tally with a Paleolithic diet?

Also what are your thoughts on extra virgin coconut oil? I have been using this lately instead of olive oil

I listened to this podcast a few days agao and I'm pretty sure it was a nay for canola and a yay for coconut. I'm surprised by Cordain saying a seed oil is good

    It doesn't IMO.

Canola is still really high in omega 6 at 20% of the oil. I'd be more inclined to use high-oleic (HAS to be high-oleic) sunflower oil for a neutral tasting oil but I haven't found it anywhere in Ireland.

Coconut oil is fine and very good for you. I bought some MCT oil online which is a part of coconut oil. (collecting various stupidly expensive and ultimately limited-use oils is sort of a hobby of mine, in my fridge is macadamia nut, red palm and avocado oil that I can only use in very specific dishes due to their strong flavours)

MCT oil has no flavour and is liquid at room temp. I wanted to make mayonnaise with it. Oh my god a single teaspoon of it was like 30 shots of espresso's equivalent in energy, I was practically vibrating with the rush. I'm not sure I liked it!:)

Interesting.. could take a teaspoon before morning workout :pac:

I noticed supplement makers have been adding it into MRPs and weight gainers now.

Yeah, it's odd, it's used to make people with malabsoption to put on weight, but it only seems to make me want to run around and burn it off.

I think I will stick to coconut oil- Am also surprised Cordain advocates it- a PT I know in the states heard he was paid to advocate it!
