Shifted the bad habits, but how to tackle the extra weight?

I found out I have an overactive thyroid 4 months ago and since going starting on the medication I've put on a few pounds (due to bad eating habits). I've got my head around the bad eating habits (cut out junk food, bread and pasta and cut down on my portion size too).

In the past month I've worked myself up to running 7k per gym session 3/4 times a week from dying after 10 mins on the tredmill. I'm still finding the extra pounds hard to shift. I do a combination of sit-ups/leg lifts/squats EVERYDAY but nothing seems to be toning.

Any advice on excercises/diet tips to get rid of unwanted fat around tighs and the dreaded love handles?

    Thanks
