Hello, just looking to get started with some landscape filters (GND+ND) and I'm wondering what would be the most commonly used filters.

Re GND, would 3 stop be the most useful? Hard or soft grad?

I also want to try long exposures so is 10-stop ideal or too dark?

    Thinking of going with Hitech

    Thanks, Noel.

well personally, i like the 3 stop ND/GND.
i have a 10 stop lee filter, some welding glass (which is darker than the big stopper) and i have a GND cokin 3 stop filter. i'd like to get a GND lee filter, but funds don't allow :(

Thanks. Would you say the 3-stop is about right or would something darker or ligher be better? I mean, do you have other filters and find the 3-stop the most useful?

    i have

1,2 & 3 stop lee grads, means i can build a heavier one if i want by stacking them

also have a lee polariser, best one i have ever used. but its mad money really

Thanks, but which would you use most often? 1,2 or 3 stops? I'm talking about landscape shots where you want to tone down the sky. I want to start with a basic kit and build up.

You're not making this easy for me are you? :)

If you had a choice of one filter, which would you go for? I can't afford to buy a whole set, I've recently splashed out on a 5d MKii + 24-105!

start with a 3 stop (ND8). that would be my choice for sure. but if you want to do daytime, get the big stopper.
