Tough game for the gooners today at home with villa playing well at the moment.
Its a must win for us after losing the last 3 PL games on the bounce!

Will Sagna be fit enough to start ? What about Arteta ? Good news that Coquelin is back. He was beginning to look really useful when he picked up his injury.

I hope AW doesnt mess around with the team today.
    I want the win.

    Szczesny
    Sagna?? Mertesacker Koscielny Vermaelen
    Song Arteta Ramsey
Ox – RVP – Ros/Ars/Wal (Cant decide who could be most beneficial, if any, play with 10??)

    EDIT:
    From Arsenal.com

    Mikel Arteta (Calf)
    Last Updated: 27 January
Speaking on January 27, Arsene Wenger said: "He is very close to full training, Thierry Henry as well."

    No arteta or henry so.

    Szczesny
    Sagna Mertesacker Koscielny Vermaelen
    Rosicky Song Ramsey
    Walcott RVP Arshavin

I've changed my mind, he wont have the balls to start ox and will of course start arshavin in defiance to admit he's a useless pleb and shouldnt have got on the pitch last week.
    Never thought of benayoun either.
You wouldnt really look at our team sheet (as the opposition) and get the fear anymore would you.

I hope AM doesent mess with the team. If we play a more passing, attacking style of football with players like Ireland on the ball we can get something from this as this isnt exactley the free flowing footballing Arsenal people still think of. However if he reverts to type (his style) and we go defensive and he plays people like Heskey aswell as the usual liabilities under pressure Collins/Warnock we will struggle.

hopefully this will be too soon for Sagna etc too as that Arsenal team look a lot stronger with a solid defense as outlined above.

I doubt he'll throw sagna in from the start id say we'l be lucky to see him come on with 15/20 mins to go.

Would like to see us line up as such today....

    Woj
    Yennaris
    Djourou
    Vermaelen
    Miquel
    Coquelin---Song
    Oxo
    Arshavin
    Henry
    RVP

Walcott needs to be dropped to hopefully knock the prima-donna 'I can do no wrong' attitude out of him and he also needs to be dropped coz he's just not good at football tbh.

Mertesacker needs a break as does Koscielny. I know Arteta could be back but wouldn't like to see us risk him in this game, especially not now we'll probably be without Jack for the rest of the season.

Would like to see Arshavin get a start centrally, I know he's been poor, but Ramsey needs a break and hopefully a good game in the hole for Shava means we can give Ramsey a couple of games rest that he badly needs.

Think henry, arteta and sagna all on a strong bench for arsenal today. Ox and RvP to start

Would be good to see Coquelin get a start too. Don't think Kos or Mert will be rested til we have the full backs back.

strongest possible villa line up anyway. plus i can't watch it since ive a trade show to go to today, giving us a decent chance

The priority is the league. I wouldnt want to risk him in a cup game on the off chance he gets injured and we're stuck with Fabianski/Almunia for the rest of the season. I know thats a risk every game, but a cup game isnt priority for us and would be like when we played Santos in a meaningless Champions League game when Gibbs was already injured. No need for him to play.

Fabianski had a good spell a couple of seasons ago but seems to be going backwards now and I'd be fearful of having to rely on him for more than one or two (cup) games.

Eh, his good spell was last season and he only lost his place due to injury.

Coquelin doing a good job so far of getting in ahead of Agbonlahor to the ball. Needs to be careful that he doesn't miss one though or he'll never catch Gabby.

RVP went in a bit mad.

Warnock is just a bad joke.

Wall was about 6 foot away by the time he hit it

Nearly had a textbook Fabianski moment there...

Ah Gabby, a low cross was needed.

Walcott end product so far has been poor, he's been in behind 3/4 Times with piss outcome

Fab is an unnesacary risk today

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,785 ✭✭✭James Forde

    Robbie Keane playing well

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,308 ✭✭✭✭Quazzie

I don't like when RVP comes deep to win the ball. When he does that he lays it off and then there is absolutely no one ahead of the player with the ball which means we inevitably end up back at the keeper. He should stay up and let someone else fill that gap behind him, rather than try to play the two roles himself.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,591 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Crinklewood

Thought that free in was a bit of a dive.

Chamberlin seems to have a footballing brain to go along with the skill and physique.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,478 ✭✭✭✭gnfnrhead

We really need better corner takers. When Arteta plays he usually hits the first man, exactly what Rosicky is doing today. van Persie is better but is often overhit or straight to the keeper. Teams dont have a problem giving us corners because they know its highly unlikely we'll score from it.

Should put a lot of work in to set pieces and really screw with everyone next season when we suddenly start scoring from them :D
