Installed ROM - broke phone?

Hey, this morning I decided I'd try out the latest version of Insert Coin ROM for my Sensation (link) - I had been using the Gingerbread version of it away with no issues for ages, but decided I'd like to try out ICS...

I installed it as normal, when it went to boot it got as far as the beats logo and then froze. I tried popping the battery out and back in, same thing though... :(

I then tried to install other ROMS (Android Revolution, CM7 & an old, gingerbread, version of Insert Coin). Android Revolution & Insert Coin freeze at the HTC Quietly Brilliant logo, CM7 would show the Cyanogen Mod logo and then reboot and go on like that in a loop.

So basically, I am now without a phone, and don't know how to recover it... :o Any help?

Did you flash the new firmware first? Check http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1468683

I found Revolution rom to be much more stable btw.

Did you do a full wipe first?

If not do it & then and reflash the rom.

I tried the file from the Insert Coin thread, seemed to be getting some error, so I tried the file from the Android Revolution thread instead (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=840040) and that worked (i think). Is there a way of checking? Or should I just re-download and try again?

That's the one for the Desire HD that you linked there.

Use the link below for the Sensation version. Do a full wipe again before you flash it. Put the zip on the root of the SD card and flash it from there.

Make sure you have the standard Sensation and not the XE or XL one or you may need a different version.

You should flash one of the recommended radios in that's in the first post there too.

Okay, I followed the instructions on the Android Revolution page (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14192842&postcount=4), including the firmware bit. Now it hangs on the HTC Quietly Brilliant screen...

I downloaded the radio file recommended in the thread, says I need to boot into debug mode from phone, which I can't do as I can't turn phone on :(

What version Rom did you use? 6.2.0 was not stable with 1.5GH kernel but latest is. Doesn't matter if you select standard or XE. When installing Rom make sure you don't pick US 4G version. If you are using 6.2.0 make sure you pick 1.2GH only.

Btw the radio is included in latest Rom. You don't need to flash again.

Okay, here's the latest state of play:
The details that I can see when I boot into recovery is:
    • HBOOT-1.27.1100
    • RADIO-10.14.9035.01_M
    • eMMC-boot
    • Recovery: 4EXT Recovery Touch

At this stage, all I want/need is any ROM/etc that will let me use my phone... Any ideas/guides?

    Did you have Super CID?

Have you deleted PG581MG.zip (firmware) from the sd card?
Was your CID listed as compatible?
Did you try wipe cache and dalvik cache in recovery?

    I have now...
    dub7_2010 wrote: »

Initially it wasn't, so I found instructions on how to enter a valid one into the zip file of the firmware file..

    Tried this too.

Still going through the reloop cycle... :(

    do factory reset
flash firmware and the delete from card
superwipe and flash rom (click no when asked if US 4G model)

Yes. You haven't said what CID you had but a workaround like you seem to have done can cause problems. SuperCID is recommended in all the guides.

Instructions in the link above from dub7_2010.

Followed these steps exactly, currently looking at the HTC Quietly Brilliant logo... Hasn't changed... :(

    Follow the guide for supercid.
Check if you still have you s-off? Some firmwares can change back to s-on.

Okay, followed the guide for supercid and that seemed to work.. Then re-installed the ROMs, same result in the end - hanging on the HTC Quietly Brilliant screen.

I checked the s-on/off by booting into recovery, it says S-Off...

    I'm at a loss...

hanging on the HTC Quietly Brilliant screen?

how long did u leave it for? can take a few mins on first boot.
Did u wipe dalvik after rom installed?
did u flash firmware AFTER supercid?

Yup, I set myself up with supercid, then flashed the firmware, then the ROM. Wiped dalvik & cache. Then turned phone on, waited about 10 minutes, then had to run out... Just turned it back on now, hopefully we'll have better luck this time...

Exactly. Looks like what fixed it was supercid, followed by firmware upgrade :D

I tried the insertcoin ics rom myself last weekend and got the same problem, and I ended up installing the Elagancia rom which worked fine.

Hi there! I have Exactly the same problem. I can boot into recovery mode, but when I want to write my superCID, my device cannot be found. In the guide they say you need to connect it to the computer in charging mode, but I can't because I have the same bootloop. How did you manage to get it attached? Cmd says: error: device not found.

    Thx a lot!:D

PM sent. Use the guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300, step 4 states how to get supercid if you can't boot.
