Thyroid and leaky gut

I've been reading that people with thyroid issues may also suffer from a leaky gut, which affects how well nutrients are digested. Has anyone here suffered from a leaky gut and how did you get it diagnosed (i.e. which specialist offers diagnosis)?

Many thanks for any helpful replies!

I don't know too much about this but there's a link between gluten and thyroid problems (Hashimotos) I've also heard/read about problems like leaky gut caused by wheat/gluten.

Some sites you could read more about would be wheat belly, Chris Kresser just had a quick look at his site and saw this the thyroid-gut connection From what I remember Robb Wolf had a good piece written about thyroid, don't remember if he mentioned leaky gut might be worth checking his website too.

i would also look at www.thedr.com who deals with many of the damaging effects gluten has on the body.

Very strong links with celiac disease and autoimmune thyroiditis - http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19324373

and hashimotos (very high chance you are going to get this if you are celiac and i would add in crohns) - http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22238404

Solution - cut out the gut irritants (gluten being the number 1 culprit there), up your probiotic intake (pill or eat fermented foods) and take a digestive enzyme with every meal (this is absolutely essential and i like the now foods and source naturals ones)
