So it seems I have candida and leaky gut problems! I have a good idea about how I'm going to take the next few months with my diet, There are some things though that I would be grateful for clarification on.

I'm using candiclear to rid the candida, and glutamine powder and slippery elm for the gut. Now I know that the anti-candida diet must be followed initially up to six weeks, but I'm wondering if I should also be treating leaky gut at the same time, with taking the glutamine? Or do they have to be done in separate stages?

I'm also concerned about not being able to buy organic meat, as farmed can have parasites and worsen leaky gut. How worried should I be about this because I want to get it right?!

I have candida. I avoid all grains and fruit (bar an apple every so often and porridge)

    Keeps it under control.

Never looked at the meat side of things.

Best thing you could do for yourself is to take apple cider vinegar every day either on salad or there are some recipes for a mix with warm water to make it easier on the net. I went to an alternative practitioner and was told that too, spend a huge amount of money on treatments and food and found that that the ACV was the only thing that worked and that helped my digestion and also to take a probiotic Udos Super 8. With all the muck the alternative practitioner recommeded I ended up with terrible bowel problems and IBS type symptoms. Just be careful please and do your research on the stuff they recommend. If you have candida in your mouth and you put some ACV on it, it kills it on contact, you can actually see it happening. You also should try to build up your immune system by getting out in the fresh air and getting regular exercise. There is also a tablet your GP can give you a course of that will kill the candida too, forget what its called, they normally give one of them after an antibiotic if you are prone to candida. Also as little sugar as possible even in a any fruit and as little yeasty foods/drinks as possible too (beer and breads mostly). Hope this helps and good luck

No sugar or sugary foods (check your breakfast cereals, soups, relishes and sauces) avoid yeasty breads like the plague and eat only whole grain. Grains are not a problem per se, often it's what surrounds them. Check your veg as well; carrots for example are very high is sugar, but in an unprocessed state, whereas other veg like rhubarb are practically inedible unless you add sugar. Check bought-in fruit juices as well, cranberry is undrinkable unless liberally laced with sugar. Beware of labels that say "no added sugar", that often means the juice has more than enough of its own. Tomato juice, tomato sauce and pasta sauces can be very high in sugar; the raw fruit is much better.

I don't suffer from candida, I'm diabetic and learned the hard way.

My bf swears that coconut oil is great and its easy to cook with and quite palatable on ryvita or ricecakey things...
acv is also good but the auld coconut oil is very strong so a little at a time...
( he also takes probiotics but they can make him achey and grumpy- he has candida from having ME , So not sure if this will apply to you but u could google it?)

With modern processed diets and over use of antibiotics most people have candida its just the severity of it and how senstitive your are. Candida overgrowth itself can also cause food intolerances which restricts the type of food you can eat.

Best bet is to stay away from all processed foods and drinks and try eat a diet high in green vegatables preferably uncooked..

    Hi OP

Saw a nutritionist few months ago and this is one of the problems I had. I never get thrush anymore (Past 8 months) following her advice. I had a lot of problems with thrush - the usual women's problems but also had 2 fungal throat infections and finally I'd had enough. Drs don't seem to think of it in terms of nutrition, although my GP did recommend seeing a nutritionist so fair play.

She had me cut out all processed food, all yeast containing products, start taking probiotic organic yoghurt every day and taking pro biotics. I use Udos Choice Super 8. She had me taking 2, 3 tmes a day with yoghurt (after food)

Then down to 3 a day and now I'm on 1 a day. It obliterated the candida completely. I've recently gotten over an ear infection and had a course of anti biotics (My first course since seeing her) and no thrush at all... couldn't believe it! lol

    Hope it helps

A diet on it's own won't work - you need strong anti-fungal medication as well. I can give you the name of an excellent specialist who helped me get rid of candida after suffering with it regularly for 10 years. Haven't had a flare up since and that was a year ago.

You dont need to see a specialist or do a special diet to get rid of intestinal candida. All you need is a single dose anti fungal medication.

Canesten Oral, diflucan, fluconozole - all available over the counter in the UK (or up north). My pill results in me suffering from overgrowth twice or 3 times a year (worse if I eat a lot of yeasty food regularly). I take a single dose anti fungal to clear it when I get a flare up.

You can practice an anti candida diet but I find it very restrictive and it takes a long time to clear the system, compared to a quick dose of anti fungal medicine.

sorry to bring up an old thread.
I have candida and suffer from really bad brain fog as well as other mainly mental symptoms and have cut out all processed sugars in the last 3 days and havent drunk alcohol in a month. I wont be able to cut out all carbs until after a few weeks, cos im living with someone that cooks our meals and i cant really be using their kitchen.
I usually would eat about 2 bars of chocolate a day plus a bag of crisp and lots of fruit juice, i have a bit of a headache and feeling a bit nauseous from cutting it out. Ive reduced my carb intake and only eat a few berries in the morning. Eating loads of veg, nuts, seeds, chicken and half my normal portion of brown rice, altough still having potatoes most every day in my main meal.
From what ive read this wont be enough to eliminate it, should i expect the symptoms to be reduced though? Or do you need to totally cut out all sugars and carbs completely for it to have any effect. Im also having a lot of cider vineger in salads and coconut oil as well as pro biotics. THanks for any help!

Many are sensitive to wheat and dairy products and this also can cause brain fog. Gluten containing foods such as wheat, barley, rye and oats can also cause reactions in susceptible individuals.

Try giving them up aswell and keep a diary then reintroduce one at a time and see how you feel.

Hi all looking for advice aswell. Im wrecked, IM tired all the time and sure I have candida. How difficult did you find an elimination diet, I just keep falling back to bread which has yeast in it. Im doping my best to cut out sugar and alcohol. I was with the doctor for something else and got a prescription for fluconozole, it is in a capsule and I just cant swallow it, I have choked on 3 already. Does anyone know of an alternative. The chemist said it needs to be like this because tha active ingredient would die before it gets to the stomach.

You would need to correctly identify if this is the issue as many issues have similar symptons.

Candida causes both physical and mental fatigue and with mental fatigue we often dont have the energy or resolve to tackle it. I dont believe there are any easy quick fixes or pills which will safely eradicate it and remember candida is a neccessary part of our body which has gotten out of hand. I believe there are ways to manage it and reduce its effect on the body and this is by managing the foods which feed it.

This involves researching everything you consume and cutting out bascially all processed foods, sugar, dairy, especially cheese, alcohol really primarly the foods you crave. Remember to follow the clues. What is the main food of fungus? Sugar! What is the craving of a person who suffers from hypoglycemia? Sugar! What is diabetes linked to? Sugar! What is the primary food of cancer? Sugar!

Your left with fruit, veg., some grains and pulses. However some of the healties diets in the world are based around this. Other things to help is getting outside and excerise, sunshine and pleanty of water hydration.

Hi I have an elimination diet which is only for 10 days. It is tough for the first few but you get in to the swing of it. Its wheat free but you can have gluten free bread. I found that yeast seems to be my problem, dont seem to have intolerance to wheat. If you cant stick to the diet just try to improve diet and if you have a partner make sure they do it or the yeast will continue to thrive via cross contamination. Also my local bakery does all yeast free bread so worth asking in your local.
