Does anybody have any experience working with these guys? I had an interview with them today in Cork, and they seemed really dodgy :/

Dodgy is for starters. These companies have been round for years under different names. I did some work in 1996 selling restaurant cards door to door. Never again it was like a cult you were chanting group mantras and were told if you sell well you would progress up the ladder till you finally ran your own office. They say jobs vary sales, marketing through to management but you will start in sales in the arse end of nowhere with no easy way to get home.

It was the worst job of my life, I got stones thrown at me in Clondalkin because we were giving away free mobile phones with every restaurant card we sold. People were stoning us to try and get the restaurant cards of us. The next day I wrecked my only suit after getting attacked by a dog in Tallaght. I never went back. I lasted 3 days and it was 3 days too much.

Also and most importantly you will be self employed. Just ask the guy at your interview about pension plan's etc and you will see what I mean.

If you search boards you will find numerous threads about Roar.

Thanks, I found it really weird that they have both ROAR and ACT in the same office with the same number but advertise them seperately. They also told me they keep their website vague, so the competition won't catch on. Also wanted me to do a ''trial run'' for like a week and weren't going to pay me, and if they didn't like me after that send me packing. I'm only 18, so I honestly don't have a clue when it comes to a lot of these things, but even I just felt uneasy with it.

I've had two interviews with these "companies." They come up with ridiculous dramatic names for their companies and they litter Jobs.ie with their ads.

I've heard many a horror story about them, and there was even a Joe Duffy show a few years ago with lots of people ringing up to complain about them.

I have an interview with these guys in the next couple of days. Is it even worth going?

Should I inform them that I wont be coming to the interview?

They'll only hassle demanding to know why and offering you alternative times and dates . A steady flow of ' cannon fodder ' is essential to the survival of these operations.

If you want to be one of those people who are standing in supermarkets or knocking on doors trying to flog charity while pretending to be in a great mood; getting paid chicken feed for wages; listening to the same inane brainwashing day in/day out; and working ridiculous hours, then most certainly go for it.

How are they still at it? I've an interview tomorrow and only i happened across this, i wouldn't of had a clue. I was applying for a lot of jobs on jobs.ie and figured i'd realize when something was a scam. is it just door to door? when they called me they said customer service was essential and i was lucky to be getting an interview!! They also told me this was a new office in Galway.

Being told you were lucky to get an interview is a common psychological trick to lure you in and tempt you to begin the job with the entrenched idea in your head that you have something special that the others didn't, thereby increasing your enthusiasm for a miserable position.

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure you have many talents. Just don't fall for the slick advertising/marketing employed here.

:D God bless them for trying. "Lucky?" Everyone who ever applied to them got an interview. In fact their job ad headline used to be "No qualifications? No experience? No problem!" or "50 billion zillion gajillion positions need to be filled asap!"

Scam is not the word for them. Steer clear. You deserve better.
