Are Multivitiamins in Holland and Barett as good as any other multi vitamins ? Do you thrust the lables on ingredients ? Are capsules better than tablets ?

Are there any established brands that are the best ?

Hiya, well capsules are absorbed almost immediately into the bloodstream. Also, if theyre powder and not oil inside you can open them up and take the powder with juice etc if you have a problem swallowing capsules. Tablets are coated and so arent absorbed as fast. But theyre generally cheaper and have a longer shelf life. I would choose capsules over tablets as the benefits are better. Holland and Barrett are a very reputable supplement retailer. Theyre actually the biggest supplement producer in the world. Often you hear people talking about Solgar being a better brand, but Solgar are actually produced by H&B as well :) Another good thing about H&B is that a lot of their products come tops in independant surveys (which they are quick to brag about!). Personally I find them very good and they have great deals in there. They had buy one and get 2 free a while ago, so its worth keeping an eye out. Besides that, I know Quest are a good brand! Anways my advice ff youre buying a multivitamin, go for a Timed Release one. With these you only take one a day and the dosage is released consistantly throughout your body all day, which gives you the maximum benefit. Hope this helps at all!

Unless you have specific personalised information from a qualified nutritionist about your diet and a need for supplements, far from doing you any good, this snake-oil may in fact be harming your health.

If you eat a balanced diet and have no specific condition that requires a particular vitamin or that you cannot tolerate foods that are a source of a particular vitamin, all you are doing is generating very expensive urine, and of course vast profits for the makers and purveyors of this pointless and sometimes perilous, shotgun approach to nutrition.

Personally I take cod liver oil and B complex vitamins. I have read that currently vegetables have less of the essential vitamins than they used to due to current food production methods. Compare the flavour of a home-grown lettuce or onion for example slowly maturing to a shop bought one - forced to grow rapidly to supply the market. But then again there is lots of research you can read on the web and make you own mind up. :)

They're a cheap insurance policy that help backup a healthy diet.

Some brands are better than others. I find seperate vitamins better like Vitamin D so I can increase its does on it's own.
