I have never used FB at all, but, does this spell the eventual end of Facebook as we know it? Or could FB go out much quicker than expected?

The vast majority of 800 million users have been gutted with the upcoming changes so far. And it doesn't seem to get any better in their view. A page on FB called 'Timeline Sucks' has been set up to make their views known on the controversial makeover. ''Over the next few weeks'', FB will only give of 7 days to make users permanently changeover to Timeline.

If you think that the changeover is very aggressive. Well IMO, it is up to yourselves to see what you think.

Agressive? Gutted? Vast majority? The statement you are making is not backed up by fact. As with any changes to do with FB, people with scream and shout about it and then get on with it.

FB going out much quicker? They are well on the way to the 1 billion accounts mark.

No it will not mean the end of facebook.
People will get used to timeline.

Every time there's a change, the same malcontents come out and complain to anyone who'll listen that "this is the end", "Facebook is the worst thing ever", "boycott Facebook" etc. etc. 2 weeks later, everyone's moved on, and nobody cares.

"Vast majority" is obviously not true. The Timeline Sucks page has 2,242 likes.

Here's another group: http://www.facebook.com/TimelineActivation. It's called "How to activate new FB Timeline feature" - instructions on how to get the Timeline ahead of the switchover. It has 57,441 likes

Aggressive? Timeline was announced on the 22nd of September 2011. Since then, millions of people have voluntarily signed up to it

...And the rest of the 'Timeline Sucks' Facebook pages to add to that.

To be honest, there's always going to be a lot of people wanting to know how to set up a new graphical user interface on Facebook, just to try it out. I mean, two of my friends told me that as soon as they saw the new 'Facebook Timeline', they didn't like the look of it at all.... But they wanted to try it out anyway, to give it a chance and see if they could get used to it.
A lot of people don't know how to set it up without instructions, so I'd imagine a lot of them are liking the 'How to activate new FB Timeline feature' page because of the instructions they're receiving, rather than the 'Timeline' itself...(To try and give 'Timeline' a chance). So I think that page is pointless in trying to make a comparison to who doesn't like 'Timeline', IMO.

Anyway, I personally don't mind 'Timeline' to be quite honest, as I think it's a big change from what it is/was. But tbh, I'm yet to see one person in real life that actually likes it. Everyone seems to detest it, hearing it non-stop everywhere about how crap it looks, and their usual: "That new 'Timeline' thing looks sh1te, if Facebook change it over to everyone permanently, I'll end up deleting my account".

Facebook will continue to be strong, unfortunately.

No, people will get over it and still continue to use it.

I've heard the exact same things when Facebook chat was introduced, when the newsfeed was introduced, every time any feature changes. The vast majority of users are silent and adapt. And the ones that shout about boycotts and "worst thing ever" are the most ardent users of Facebook, and never follow through

Just what I was about to say. Great point well made.

It's entirely their choice what decisions they make on new features.

I hate the timeline, it's just awkward to use, but I'm sure I'll get used to it if it stays.

Saying that, I heard on the radio today that a poll of 4,000 user's showed only 1 in 10 actually like the time line feature. That seems like an awful lot of people disliking it so I have to ask, did Facebook do any research into what people would rather, or did they just decide "we like it, so get used to it"?

I dont think forcing it upon people is a good idea at all.

Here's a link to more details on the poll: http://technolog.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/01/27/10252505-facebook-timeline-poll-overwhelming-negative-reaction. Given it was released by Sophos, a security firm, I'll take the results with a grain of salt. Not to mention the flawed possible answers in the poll, the target group, and the fact that people who do like it are much less likely to respond than does who don't

Did it say how many disliked it. I'd wage an awful lot of that 90% simply didn't care.

Read a great fake headline yesterday

"ANGER AS FREE SERVICE WHICH PEOPLE USE FOR FREE ON THEIR OWN FREE WILL MAKES MINOR CHANGE"

Whatever about concerns for your privacy, any cosmetic changes are just that

I can't see the timeline being Facebook's downfall... or Facebook itself vanishing any time soon. The network is just too big. Bebo (which may or may not be dead) had a rather limited demographic whereas Facebook is far more wideranging in terms of age groups, countries where it's popular, etc. It's gone through changes before and no doubt will again. I remember people complaining the last time they changed it and it's still there. I can't see why this would be any different.
