Fitness Dock/ Raw Gyms (are they good/bad value??)

    Hey

Been thinking of signing up to a gym. There are two in my area, chances are i'll end up in one of these:

One is really close, called 'Raw condition' just by the Bernard Shaw. This place is €399 for 12 months. This seems reasonable for a year, but does anyone have any experience of it and would they reccommend it?? I suppose what are the people like, enough/good equipment, classes in price? etc.

There is a second place on Camden street, just beside Fresh supermarket, Called the fitness dock. Don't know about prices and all that. Anyone have experience if this place - any good?

Lastly, is there anything i should be looking for in a gym. I mean, stuff that's important but not so at first glance?

    Thanks

    JAK:D

Quite possibly the best gym ive ever trained in. Staff and customers are really helpful. Into my 2nd year as a member and have absolutely no complaints thus far. The €399 is a great offer and includes classes.

I have been members in both and Raw is the better gym in every possible way (and by quite a distance)

Was a member in RAW myself for over a year, only reason I left was because I moved. Can echo what someone else said about the staff being helpful, and since I have left I think they are offering a few more classes aswell.
I only availed of the spin classes but there was never any wait for cardio machines, I never really went at peak time so I can't comment on the avilablity of racks, machines and benches etc but I always enjoyed training there and never had any hassle.

Raw is a great gym. Not as many frills as you get elsewhere like pool and stuff but does the basics brilliantly. Staff seem to know their stuff too.

Only thing is that it's gotten very busy lately at peak times - I avoid it myself entirely on Mon - Wed evenings. Otherwise tho it's great.

I'm a member of Raw for over 2 years now and can say it is without a doubt one of the best gyms i've ever been in. Great staff, members are easy enough to talk to, loads of classes, equipment etc. As the others said, no pool, and no frills. But really good.
There's a great deal on at that moment when you join too. It's €399 for 12 months and you get a free PT session, a 30 minute massage and some other stuff.
And no i don't work there, just a (very) active member....

Also a Raw member. Can't say enough great things about it tbh. Join up. Gets fairly crowded around peak times yes, but still not much waiting time for racks/benches etc.

I wouldn't even say RAW gets all that crowded. Not in the sense that you'd have to wait long for anything.
    Best gym.

    +1 for Raw!

    Hey everyone

Thanks for the feedback. I went downthere myself today and had a look around. The ability to freeze my membership has probably clenched it as i may be away from May-September if i get a job. The guys do seem to know there stuff. Needless to say the fitness dock has been disposed of; nothing at all about them anywhere but the great reviews for Raw seem consistent and genuine.

My girlfriend is also keen to join - no doubt taken in my enthusiasm - which has its good and bad sides... :D but yea the place seems great value, only 7-8 euro a week with the current deal. Have decided to take the plunge scrapping the money together as we speak. Thanks to all the posters here i appreciate it, i'll try and not be that guy hogging your machine!

If i'm in the gym regular enough to have to queue for equipment, i'll be a happy man :)

Only thing left to discover now is the sauna (never spotted today in Raw) waiting for a catch with this but i'm hoping it's decent i would aim to use this a few times a week myself.

    Cheers lads, very encouraging stuff!

Thanks for the heads up. I didn't opt for that deal as i've decided to take the 12 month deal at raw, but that site is great and i will use it i future.

Does anybody know what Raw is like in the mornings as i am thinking about joining there when my job moves to Harcourt St.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,192 ✭✭✭Dathai

It's fairly empty in the mornings. You'll have no problem getting to use stuff.

I've been kind of hopping to and from RAW and another gym near my job for the past while because my shift has changed in work. It's gotten to the stage where I just go to RAW regardless of how long I get to train, by far one of the best gyms going.

I go at lunch and the most you would get in free weights area is 7 or 8 people , only once in 1 year the 4 squat racks were occupied at same time

99% of the people are dead sound so there'll be no bother jumpin in if you are in a hurry

    Its a great gym
