Looking for some inspiration please. I'm trying to improve my diet, fitness etc... and am trying to make small steps and make them stick instead of doing something restrictive and quick.
I probably have about 3-4 stone to lose and am hoping to do this slowly and keep it off.
I've cut out sweets and chocolate - I've always had a sweet tooth unfortunately, but so far don't miss them (been 2 wks now without chocolate!)
I'm having porridge and fruit for breakfast and either soup or a sandwich for lunch and then a proper dinner in the evenings, I tend not to snack during the day, possibly have some fruit if I'm hungry.
In the evenings though I tend to find I'm getting hungry about 9ish, I would have had a packet of crisps or some chocolate previously.
Any suggestions for snacks that are not going to leave me still wanting some thing else??

A heaped teaspoon of coconut oil. Kind of horrible but definitely works.

Also make your early day protein heavy and leave carbs for the evening. Kind of the opposite of what you hear but actually has more evidence for keeping hunger under control.

A handful of nuts or a couple slices of turkey. Try to eat two healthy snacks between meals- nuts, avocado, Nairns Oat Biscuit. Avoid anything that will raise your blood sugar- white bread, white pasta, white rice, sugar, alcohol.
If you eat plenty of dark greens with meat or fish (and or whole grains if you want to eat carbs at night) for dinner this should keep your blood sugar from spiking

i find a baked sweet potato is very very filling and keeps me running out to fridge to pick at food!
also i take chromium to keep blood sugar stable to stop me cravings!

Thinly sliced apple with almond butter, a small bit. Also, if you really want chocolate a cup of hot chocolate can save you from a chocoverload.

A proper dinner eh, I'm not sure what that is but I know if I don't heap a whole load of veg onto my dinner I won't feel really satisfied.

I also drink teas like chamomile, green, mint, passion-fruit, mixed berry and make myself a nice hot water bottle at the same time.

But sometimes I get a little hungry but I don't eat as I don't need any extra energy before I go to sleep and I am certain that my body isn't going into starvation mode i.e I've gotten enough calories and nutrients during the day.

Its funny I'm your position 2-4 stone to lose but now I don't struggle with cutting down anymore I really struggle with eating enough like tonight I had my dinner and thought my calories were going to be under 1200 so I had a slice of whole wheat bread and some peanut butter and a cup of tea, I'm a tad "hungry" now like I could eat but I'm not really hungry I could go without, I think that is key learning your different types of hunger and what you need to fulfill that hunger.

I find if you keep plenty of fruit that you like to eat around - in my case oranges and berries and snack on those. Also, low-fat yogurts are great.

I also keep a glass of water close to hand. People often think they're hungry but are actually thirsty. So drink plenty of water!

Also - don't buy the things that tempt you. If they're not in the press, you can't eat them.

But you can't be good all the time so if you stock up on 'better' versions of your snacks e.g. velvet crunch or walkers baked crisps if you like salty snacks. Or milky way bars/curly wurly bars if you like chocolate. A good hint is to keep chocolate in the freezer - that way it lasts longer. As with everything, the trick with these snacksis just to have one - needs will power!

Or if you want to treat yourself with a dessert, something like meringue with berries and low fat ice-cream/frozen yogurt is gorgeous and you really feel like you've indulged but its still low in fat/calories.

    Good luck with it! :)
