    it's a big one!

Liverpool should want this more than Manchester City, considering it's their best chance of silverware this year, but City have the talent to make that not really matter.

also, Liverpool are coming off an horrendous performance at the weekend, while City are coming off one of their most important victories of the season.

i'm not going to even hazard a guess at the teams with the FA Cup also coming up this week.

my (perhaps optimistic) prediction: 1-1, so 2-1 Liverpool on aggregate.

    have fun!

Anyone think a Liverpool / City result at 30/1 is a good bet for a 10er

Garcia to return as a ghost and score the winner for Liverpool.

If we string 5 across the back and play gerrard and adam in the middle together without someone to play behind them we'll loose. We need to get on the front foot. An early goal would be invaluable.

Should be a good game. Looking forward to watching it later. Think Liverpool can hold on.

Expect to line up something like this.

    Reina---Doni

    --Johnson-Kelly--Carra--Agger--Skrtel--Flannigan--Enrique--

    Gerrard

    Carroll

I think City will be shown too much respect again tonight but they are there for the taking. If we had taken the game to them in the first leg we could have had a more comfortable advantage but instead ended up with ten defenders, can see tonight being more of them same. If it works well played Kenny/Clarke etc....if not they cannot place the blame on anyone else.

At least it can't be any worse than Saturday.

I kind of feel the fact its at Anfield is a plus for City. There will be some expectation/encouragement from the crowd of Liverpool getting forward to try to score. That will leave gaps to exploit. Also its an away leg so 2 goals for City should be enough.
    1-2 or 1-3 to City I feel.

lets just hope for a good game, i am not to worried about it, i don't think city are taking it too seriously.
its hard for liverpool being 1 up at home, all the pressure is on them.
if savic plays and makes a few howlers liverpool will have a great chance if not city could well sneak it.

I've a bad feeling we'll go out of this on away goals (which only count after extra time in this competition I, unless that rule has been changed).

    1-2 :(

A dull affair with Liverpool keeping possession which will come to life with 10mins to go when City equalise , but Liverpool hold out and progress to the final .

I seen it all earlier .;)

Yes I'm sure Liverpool would prefer to be 1-0 down:p

Ugh. That's my main feeling about this. I was wondering why I never have good feelings about the League Cup, I realised its because its always cold and dark during its run.

2-1 to City. If we're up for it we can definitely win, it's a big if though.

How does the away goals rule work? Is it only goals scored during extra time or is it the team who has scored more away goals over the two legs after extra time?

Unless it's changed in the last couple of years, then away goals don't count until after extra time, so if it finishes 1-2 or similar after normal time, then extra time will be played. If no more goals are scored, then away goals will count double and City will go through. There can only be penalties if it finishes 0-1 after 90 and 120 mins, but if City are 1 up by any other scoreline (1-2, 2-3 etc) then it will go to extra time but definitely no penalties.

    Don't think so.

Afaik, if it finishes 1-2 tonight then Liverpool will have scored 1 away whereas if mc will have scored 2 away goals. 2-2 on aggregate means mc will have gone through on away goals rule not that they'll score 1 at Anfield let alone 2 :D

Unless it's changed in the last couple of years, this is incorrect, and is as I posted above.

Found this on the bastion of correctness wikipedia, which backs me up.
In English football, two-legged fixtures in the League Cup are only subject to the away goals rule after extra time; if teams are level on aggregate after 90 minutes of the second leg, extra time is played regardless of whether one team leads on away goals

Liverpool look very average last few games.

City playing on a different level.

    0-1

City to win in extra time.

How many away games have City not won recently?

City have 'till 6 (14 minutes) to announce whether Balotelli will be serving his suspension tonight or appealing it, right?

Apparently he wasn't on the bus earlier today.

Liverpool to go through and then win the cup, but will that really ease the pressure that's starting to build where KD and his signings and his team are concerned. Maybe, but it's still only the League Cup but I'm of a mind that a trophy is still a trophy.

City are still playing far worse than they were earlier in the season. However, if Liverpool play like they did last weekend they will be toast.

City by no means are the same team that they were earlier in the season but then again we were bloody phenomenal!! Be great to turn this tie around tonight and I'd be a liar if I said it wouldn't bother me much if we lose....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,998 ✭✭✭grohlisagod

Contrary to what some people have said, I'd be shocked if City don't take this game extremely seriously. There's a trophy on the line and they don't play at the weekend.

I'm extremely worried about this game as a Liverpool fan. I can't see a Liverpool win, but we might get the draw we need to qualify, as long as we don't invite them on to us like we did in the second half at the Etihad.

One thing I expect is a rocking atmosphere at Anfield tonight as its been a few years since a big semi final (even if it is the lge cup). Cmon Kenny and the lads!!

If Gerrard is further up and Henderson is alongside Adam in the middle that would be okay. But I don't imagine that will be the case.

Looks like Gerrard playing off Bellamy, and Adam and Henderson in the middle.

The alternative is Kuyt up front, with Downing and Bellamy in a front 3, and Gerrard/Henderson/Adam in the middle of the park, which would be worse imo.

Henderson in the middle it looks like.
