Installing an OS

Bought a Dell XPS 1730 with no hard drives installed from a friend of a friend a while ago, turns out the disk drive doesn't work on it too.

Is there any way of putting an OS on it ?

As far as I know I can, but can I transfer the OS installation files from the CD to memory stick ?

What OS are you trying to install?

Creating a bootable Windows 7 USB drive from ISO.
Creating a bootable Ubuntu USB.

What do you mean by putting an OS on it? If it doesn't have any hard-drives, that doesn't really make any sense. Or are you saying that you now have a hard-drive and you can't get an OS installed because the disk drive is broken?

I bought it without the hard drives, I bought replacements and I can't get the disk drive to work to load an os onto it, I wanted to know was it possible to load the OS without the disk drive

You can run a Live linux distro from a usb. How do you know the hard drives don't work.

If the don't take them back.

I'm guessing when OP says disk drive he means optical disk drive, ie CD/DVD.
