Cannot use weights for couple of months

    Help required !

I've a small surgical procedure coming up to repair an umbellical hernia (belly button poking out). The consultant has recommended I do not use any weights / free weights in the gym as the initial hernia has got a little worse. Surgery is in 2 weeks and for 6 weeks he strongly recommends no weights in the gym.

I am overweight, recently gave up smoking which added on further pounds as chocolate bar intake replaced nicotine intake. I have returned to the gym over the last month.

I want to keep the momentum going and exercise in the gym effectively, i want to go around 3 times a week.

What exercises can I do with minimal abdominal strain for a couple of months which will be effective in burning calories to assist with weight loss ? Am attempting to remove excess sugar and unrefined carbs (white bread, pasta etc) from my diet.

    Thanks

Listen to your doctor. If you want to lose weight the first thing to do is eat less, exercise is secondary anyway.
