    o/

So was out earlier and having a few drinks at a work event. Seen a nice waitress/barmaid. Ended up making small talk with her later on in the night. I wanted to ask for her number but I decided not to. I seem to think it's rude to ask for there number while they work(Queue jokes for stalk her after she works) But now i'm quite annoyed with myself that I didn't ask for her number. I always figure they are used to it from really drunk people so take no notice of it, but I was sober as a saint.

So my question to you Ah'ers! Would you ask for a person number while they where working?

I am monitoring the superfluous use of the word So at the start of posts on Boards. It is a phenomenon imported from America and is becoming increasingly common. Your usage is slightly unusual, most of these posts start "So I".

99% of women wouldn't call. They would show the note to their girlfriends and be pleased at the attention but they won't call.

Pretty low down her list I reckon.

She would probably be more concerned with what the OP can do with his mouth. As opposed to what comes out of it.

    no, no, no!

he needs to go back now, before she's finished for the night, and pace the footpath outside up and down while maintaining a constant stare at her. that'll work.

stand outside, face pressed up to the glass, looking in. breathing on the glass, writing her name + his name 4 evar on the fog? I see. well eager is good :) she'll be flattered

I've had customers ask me for my number and it can be pretty awkward. It only seems to happen when I'm in a committed relationship.

One guy came in to ask me about air fresheners, I spent 5mins helping him choose one, he paid and left. Then half an hour later, he rang the shop asking for me, then asked me out for dinner and asked could he have my number. I'm sure he was probably a nice guy, but it was awkward when I had to explain that I had a boyfriend. :o

    Fortune favors the bold. ;)

If you've been having the craic with someone, and you have to head out at the end of the night, what's the harm in saying "Hey, if you want to meet up sometime, here's my number". It's really not that big of a deal; ****, I've done it, and I'm a brazen hussy girl. :p

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,299 ✭✭✭✭later12

I never ask for numbers, I always go for the more non-commital facebook add.

-Oh you've been to Costa Rica? Man I really want to go there. Oh really? You have pictures? On facebook? Great.
-Cool, lets talk on facebook; if you're ever in Dublin (etc) I'll show you around
-I really want to find a place to live around there; if you ever hear of anything let me know on facebook

    etc.

The benefit to this is twofold

(i)It's a handy safety catch: no rose-tinted beer googles when you meet on the first proper date and Fiona has turned into Princess Shrek.

And don't even think she's not thinking the same thing about you.

(ii)You can get a clearer idea of who she is and what kind of stuff she's into by checking out her facebook. No awkward moments in Burger Joe's when she turns and says 'I'm actually a vegan'.

    Everybody wins.

I used to be asked out a fair bit when I was working and i hated it, a lot of times I was only being nice cause its my job. If someone asked for my number i'd always say i can't give it out in work and take their number if they didn't leave and not call. Only went out with one guy I met working and he was a tool (who stalked me in work after we broke up)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,033 ✭✭✭✭Richard Hillman

Leave the girl alone ffs. She gets asked out by people in her job plenty of times a week, what makes you not just another creep? The reality is, if she is any use, she's probably going out with somebody anyway.

When I used to work in a bar before there was a guy that would be in there from time to time and would always ask me out. I Always just laughed it off saying i was busy, eventually one night he gave me his number. I just threw it in the bin, dont think hed heard me saying no all those times :/ so op, either ask her out once or just ask for her number/pass on your number once, any more persistant than that and she'll think she has a weirdo on her hands!

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 3,144 ✭✭✭Scanlas The 2nd

Do it, you'll be dead soon enough so may as well follow your intentions instead of being a little bitch about it.

Hand her your phone and tell her to put her number in, say if you don't like you can put in a fake one.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 27,252 ✭✭✭✭stovelid

    I would.

Wouldn't risk just leaving your number as she might be too shy to ring.

If you definitely don't want to ask, suggest a lunch or coffee date somewhere nearby a few days later.

There's nothing 'creepy' about him asking for advice on chatting up a girl.
The reality is, if she is any use, she's probably going out with somebody anyway.
If everyone took this stance on dating, we'd all be locked in our rooms every night playing video games.

I got stopped and asked for ID by a policeman just so he could ask for my phone number :S
Wouldn't have been so awkward only I was 19 and he was at LEAST in his mid 30s (legal, to be sure but...)
When he asked me, his colleague just looked at the two of us and wandered off, and I said something about it not being appropriate because he was on the job, and he said that he could take me somewhere later after work when he wasn't in uniform (ho HO! ;P)
But if he's not sexy in uniform, you just know it's not going to work, so unfortunately it was a no
