That's my old 1964 lambretta! What are the chances of that!! I thought I recognised it at first by the old twin saddles (most Li 150 lambrettas had a double bench seat) and the horizontal carrier. I zoomed in on the reg. and sure enough it looks like WZD 774, I bought it second hand in 1980 from a guy in College Grove in Castleknock and sold it about two years later, I wonder where it ended up? Probably in the scrapyard.

Am I missing something there? I only see one Renault?! The car nearest the camera moving out of shot is a Chrysler Alpine. A fair few Fiats there too that are virtually extinct these days.

Does anyone know where I'd find some old pics of Parnell Street (The Ilac Centre end)? My Mam's family had a shop there in the first half of the last century and I'd love to find a pic of it. It stood roughly where Penneys is now.

Most of the cars in that photo were common enough back then but have completley disappeared. Transit vans, Escort Mk1 van which were the staple of tradesmen of the time, R4 vans (the P&T and ESB had loads of them), a Fiat 131 and a couple of 128s.

I think theres a Corolla K20 behind the blue Transit and maybe a Commer van in the background on the side street? I've no idea whats behind the 131 but looks like a mid sized Datsun, maybe a 160 ? Any guesses?

The 128s were very popular at the time, my oul fella had a pale blue one that he swapped around 1978 for a Datsun 120Y. The 128 got damages in Kerry on holidays when some bales fell off a truck coming against us, we crashed but the steering and suspension weere never right after. The Datsun proved to be one of the best cars he ever had, he sold it in the mid 80's and it eventually went over 300,000 miles, believe it or not. The road safety campaigns of the time also used a 128 in their ads IIRC.

Either spend some time on Google images or head to one of the bigger libraries in Dublin. Theres one in the Ilac centre, staff in there are very helpful.

Very good, what's the chances of that happening.
    Are you still into scoots? I currently have a '63 Li125, a '58 LD AVV, 2-NSU Prima D's, a Garelli Capri, and a modern '06 Vespa GTS250.

Once you're into old scoots you never lose it :), I have a Lambretta SX200, a 1970 GP 150, a 1971 GP 150 in complete condition but needing restoration and a 1969 Vespa sprint..

That's O'Connell bridge house at the junction of Burgh Quay and D'olier Street being built in the background in 1965 so you have it right...

Thats actually a Fiat 132!............. Agree the car behind the 128 looks like a Datsun either a 120Y or a 140j

    Nice pics.

Third pic from the bottom looks like WI 37. WI started in Jan 1904 so thats probably and 04-06 car.

Bottom one looks like YI 331 which makes it a late 1921 number by the looks of things.

Top pic is Obi Wan Kenobi using the force to get the tractor going.

No idea what make/model any of them are.

No I don't think that's a 131, that's the mirafiori model. Its the 132, and the car behind it is another fiat, this time a 127.That blue two door 128 in the background seemed rare then, never mind now. I have never seen one anyway.

Agreed its a 132. I didn't mean the red 127, I was talking about the beige/gold coloured car behind the 132 and beside the double decker. Jap cars were only just getting a foothold in the market back then.

Speaking of which my father traded in his 128 for a Datsun 120Y (great car) around 77-78, he drove Japs for about 18 years non stop after that before falling for VW's.

Youre eyesight is better than mine so :D, Its too far for me to even guess.I would guess though that the car parked behind the blue transit van and beside the blue fiat 128 is a Datsun 120y.Bulletproof engine, body total ****e.

Incidently, what year was it? Cant be before 77 anyhow cause the 127s were made between 77-81.

Great picture there!! Thats an electic van, the very same as this picture here by Michael Corcoran. I think they were called B.M.A.s or something. They were usually used as breadvans and the like.

It looks a lot like this: a 1947 Brush Two Ton Battery Lorry owned by Dartry Laundries now in the National Transport Museum in Howth. Badge looks the same as on the street photo, just the indicator lights are different. Its on the back of a truck and access was limited the last day I was out there but its on one of the lovely postcards they have for sale. Hopefully it will soon be returned to its past glory. Brush built Trams and other electric motors, they still exist today.
