Width of benches

Just curious for opinions on this - do we think the narrow benches be they adjustable or flat are a negative when trying to push heavy?

I ask as last Sunday I pinched a nerve whilst doing 20 sets of chest in my back btw as I believe the part of my back not supported by the bench was getting pinched.

I also had the opportunity a few months ago to train down in Limerick and the benches were much wider and all the back was on them - I felt stronger that day - perhaps had better leverage or something?

Just looking for views or experiences.:)

I haven't really noticed much difference in terms of strength, but I definitely find wider benches more comfortable. If they're narrower maybe there's more core work involved in keeping yourself steady? I'd be interested to see some responses here myself

If you're talking about the one Dave Fitz had made and benched 300kg on - that's a bit wider than Id personally like, but can see why for biggr lads it's good.

The ER combo rack bench is perfection IMO. You'll probably be able to fine specs on their site er-equipment.somethingsomething.

Youwere trying to impress that day though....!

Narrow benches are a nightmare. You need a solid wide bench.

Find it easier on a wider bench. I reckon it';s to do with calling more back muscle into play. Also I'm pure stupid and keep sliding off the narrow bench in the local gym.
