Paleo/Primal and Cholesterol

So, last year I lost quite a lot of weight by going Primal. I am no obsessive and was probably 85/90% primal, which was fine by me. Anyway, one of my colleagues was very impressed with the weight-loss and I ended up lending her the book. She had high-ish cholesterol and one of her relations had died recently and it was put down to the usual cholesterol/heart etc.

Anyway she was put on Statins. So now 6 months later, she has lost about a stone and went back for her check up - the cholesterol has raised by a point or so - of course she/her doctor doesn't go into HDL/LDL or any of that stuff and he has immediately doubled her dose of statins.

I feel really bad about this - she is now totally opposed to primal and thinks that it is the devil incarnate because it has put her life at risk. There is nothing I can say that will change this*. She clearly didn't read the book properly or do any other research on the subject.

So, she is now on a diet of mainly wholemeal bread, pasta and all that cr*p.

Not really sure why I am posting this, just moaning really! Sorry.

Edit: I am not evangelical about the subject, I have always thought that eating good, homemade meat/eggs/fish and loads of vegetables is just a sensible diet - I don't talk about it at all unless someone asks.

Cant really gauge it without going into the markers for the more in depth test - i'd do that before changing anythimg

I was listening to a show of healthy mind fit body podcast and it said that the cholesterol point without the breakdown is nonsensical - like asking what the score of a match was and being told - 35 - when it's was 14v11 ifykwim.
I'm sorry she hasn't seen the way, frustrating for you, and sad for her that's she now on statins for the forseeable future

Do paleo followers consider high cholesterol to be a good thing or a natural state?

    I know, pointless.

Yep, I just feel kind of guilty about it - and sorry for her that her brief foray into eating better has ended so badly for her. And also everyone else at work thinks its ridiculous. They are all firmly on the 'healthy' food pyramid now.

It's kind of funny really, my lovely salad with loads of different green stuff, avacado and some seared beef for lunch is bad beause there was no bread or pasta with it. And of course if I did eat the bread I'd put butter on it and that'd be the work of the devil. :p

    Oh well!
